Yeah we know how RT works. But if reception was truly mixed, the score would be lower. I would describe reception for a movie with an 88% RT as “mostly positive”. Were you expecting Black Panther style raves?

    Up to 91% on RT.

The aggregate score doesn't reflect the actual tone of a lot of the reviews. Just going down the list, the first few reviews (all submitted as "Fresh") are 2.5/4, 3/5, 6/10, 3/5, B. There are a couple of very high ones and then you come to more "Fresh" reviews scored at 3.5/5, B-, and B.

    Hence, "mixed".

Idiots are gonna blame Brie and feminism when it's just a genre and studio system that rarely delivers and rewards anything above mediocrity

Yeah but imo if the median score was truly in mixed territory, there would be more rotten reviews in the mix. The situation where a movie gets a 90% on RT but all the scores are 6/10 is technically possible but there are no notable examples of it actually happening to my knowledge. Average score for this looks to be mid/low 70s, which seems about right for an MCU origin movie.

Never said the RT score was mixed, said the reaction was mixed. You and others brought the RT score into play as some kind of a rebuttal to that.

    Rotten Tomatoes is dumb.

It's an adequate enough tool for checking in on the pulse of a certain circle of people who watch movies, if you know what it is & what it isn't. But, it's also dumb.

Just use a variety of tools available to you in the internet age to see how different people have responded to a film & why. And, don't get caught up on stupid things like tomato score or whatever.

It's a great tool to aggregate reviews from all over the internet so you don't have to go looking yourself. Which is why I always find it weird to see people give Rotten Tomatoes shit but in the same breath say "read actual reviews and decide for yourself." It's all collected there in one easy place. People do put way too much stock in the score, though. Which, as this movie is currently proving, isn't the most reliable metric in and of itself.

Most of the criticisms I’ve skimmed (quickly—since I don’t want to read too much before I see it) are basically saying the same things you can say about every Marvel film.
At the end of the day, I’m just going to skip reading reviews from male critics. Not that their opinions are invalid, but I just don’t care ha.

Walking out of WW was very refreshing, even with its awful third act. Looking forward to feeling that feeling again.

Speaking for myself, I didn't try to bring RT scores as a rebuttal for anything, I was merely pointing out what I observed after seeing what initially looked like a mixed reception overall. Nothing more than that

Most of the reviews are saying it’s fun and captures the feel of it being set in the 90s which are the only two things I asked for being that it’s an origin story.

Because I don’t think the RT score would be that high if reaction was truly mixed

Mixed reviews count as good reviews so being that most reviews have given it a 3/5 with some rare 4/5, you can think of the RT% as the percentage of people who see this as a 3/5 film which is mixed.

It has a 68/100 on metacritic which sounds about right.

    So assuming that this weekend...

I will post pictures from last night's premiere when I get the chance. My wife met a ton of the cast and has some awesome pictures. She's also in a video going around the internet meeting Brie and freaking out. I'll post that too.

If I wrote up a review of the film are there people in here who care enough to read it? It'll be spoiler free, obviously.

Right but a high % on RT realistically indicates that the floor for scores is around a 5/10 or 6/10. It’s technically possible for a 90% fresh movie to get almost entirely 6/10s but in practice scores are distributed among a wider range. And since we’re in the low-90s/upper-80s here, the bottom of the range is 6/10 and most of the reviews are higher as evidenced by the average score and the MC score.

It’s all pointless semantics but in my mind that’s lightly-mixed at the absolute worst.

I've seen some people blaming the two directors for how uninspiring the story is. I don't know anything about the directors but I think it's just the placement of the film itself. It tends to be more of a bridge towards Endgame from what I've read.

Did they say the same thing when the Russo brothers worked together

  23. Maybe there's a disconnect between what's "objectively" good (from a traditionally cis-het-white-male perspective) and what can make people feel the way Wonder Woman made women feel, Black Panther made black people feel, and Crazy Rich Asians made Asian people feel.
