This record lacks an obvious Woman (In Mirror) type song, that's about the only obvious piece of criticism I can level against it.

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

yeah, this is basically how I feel about it right now. Maybe it'll grow on me, but I'm a little disappointed in this

    Cursed by my ancestry

I really like the production, personally would not use the word flat at all. This is another one of those albums that feels like I'm surronded by it like a body of water, more so than Rooms and Wildlife. Almost like a panorama...

Edit: where as I think the mix on Rooms is more present/in your face and may feel more immediate. Panoramas mix feels like there is lot to discover overtime. I dont think one is inherently better or worse.

We reach for the longest shadow

I haven't listened to this yet, but 100% on this take. It's like your hiking on a cold mountain top and there is an avalanche that starts with that riff... I dunno, that's a special song for me. I love most of Yip's work, and while I can agree about Descensus being muddy and too treble heavy at times, The Amulet fixed all of that and is the best sounding Circa record.

I often wonder with Yip if its a taste thing, you either love it or you hate it. I like the vocals pushed back and the instruments more in the forefront, but I could see that as a criticism for some people as well.

Guitars should always be as loud as possible I don’t know how there can be an argument any other way

w/ Drew on this and ROH are more my style. I love ROH but I think this in the long run could edge it out for me. I always love Yip's production and he kills it on here.

the production is great except the one gripe i had on footsteps seems to be carrying over to the other songs: way too much lo-mids in the guitars when they get heavy, resulting in a masking effect on the vocals. that frequency range is by far the hardest on the spectrum to balance correctly so thats really not to take away from yip's work. the drum tone is amazing, everything else is balanced really well and honestly i feel like there's more space and depth to these mixes than there was on rooms of the house, which felt much more dry than this record.

I don't really like the first couple of minutes of Fulton Street II at all. Second half is significantly better though.

My favorite LD album is just whichever of Rooms or Wildlife I listened to most recently.

Whats everyones reading of the end of You Ascendant? Something about the 'How long do I have to fix it?' line and onward makes me think that the characters partner is terminally ill and he is dealing with shame for not valuing their time together more. I admit that this is probably incorrect because I've heard that this album is not a work of fiction and I don't think that happened to Jordan but I think Im going to stick with this reading anyways.

You Ascendant is the best acoustic guitar tone I've heard.

I mix a lot of music as well, I see this as a positive not a negative.

Sounds like this is a grower, not a show-er. Sometimes it takes your brain 20 listens.
