Both of those are also played just like the actual songs haha. What Weezer covers do they have where they changed things up?

Weezer played Boston Calling 2017? Nice.

  5. None, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy those renditions

    Zombie Bastards
    California Snow
    The Prince Who Wanted Everything
    Byzantine
    High as a Kite
    Piece of Cake
    I’m Just Being Honest

All worthy additions to the Weezer canon.

Also low key “Piece of Cake” is the best song here. That’s the kind of melancholy Weezer track that I love.

Also. Rivers voice is still second to none. A lot of bands I can go elsewhere for a fix. But Rivers is still one of a kind and unmistakably Rivers. An all time great “whoa”/“oh” guy. “The Prince Who Wanted Everything” is just the latest example.

I've actually started to really like Hustle and Zombie Bastards.

Prince is the only song that doesn't do much for me but I don't hate it

Wow I'm surprised by that Pitchfork score. That's actually pretty high for their Weezer standards.

Yeah I’m finding this to be similar to how I feel about PD. It’s pretty listenable, but feels too hollow too often. I think some of the glossiness of PD makes it the more enjoyable record, with a lot less “wtf moments”

Really like bysantine and piece of cake tho

I'm kind of confused about the intent behind The Prince Who Wanted Everything, to be honest. Like what does "look at him now" mean in the context of Prince having tragically died.

Yeah I have no idea about the narrative. It's so confusing, like what's his point

Like, "Prince wanted everything but then he tragically passed away, look at him now"? Because I'm not sure I'm down for that implication.

I know, I would like to hear an exact explanation of what he was going for cause that's all it sounds like and it makes no sense to go that way to me

Eh that’s not how I interpreted it. Felt like the song was more a commentary on what happens to an incredible artist after they pass. Or shit even during the time they are alive. You have this artist that “wants to change the world with funk rock riffs”, a truly innovative and forward thinking voice. And yet that kind of power attracts vultures and hangers on. Everyone wants a piece.

Only the very last few lines of the song are about that. The rest of it is decidedly not.

I wake up in the morning, tell google that it's time to get that bread, and Can't Knock The Hustle starts playing.

    This is 2019.

I mean it sounds like you’re looking to interpret it one way and one way only. The rest of the song lays the groundwork of his success and his aspirations. The chorus is the chorus, just because the “look at him now” happens early in the song doesn’t mean shit. You need to delineate. The kicker at the end is what snaps the rest of the song into focus.

I mean, it sounds like you're the one who's seizing upon one specific part of the song and looking to interpret it one and one way only but alrighty. Sorry I asked.

Lol. You’re quite literally seizing on “look at him now” and your entire interpretation is based off 4 words. You have ignored the rest of the song. If you want to live your life sharpening pitchforks be my guest. But the song is not “decidedly” about what you think it is. It’s your opinion but it’s not as clear as ya think. You’ve really given no support.

Like I think you could be right about the entire intent of the song. But it absolutely comes off super clunky in the execution, I don't think either of us are looking to kill Rivers over this, it just sounds awkward the way he's put it, I'd like to assume he had good intentions and just muddled it
