can't be made fun of Prestigious

haven’t seen it mentioned, but a lot more has come out re: Wil Wagner of The Smith Street Band. someone, i believe the author of the initial Instagram post, posted screencaps of emails in the form of an Instagram story. they haven’t been backed up anywhere i’ve been able to find, but they sound abusive and bad. Wil posted a shitty apology on the TSSB Instagram quoting “as far back as 2013” and citing a “messy breakup”. he turned off comments “out of respect”, because that’s not a totally transparent cop out or anything. Georgia came back with her own statement saying she has screencaps of emails where Wil threatens a murder suicide of Georgia and himself from as recently as the last year or two. rumors around that Wil is getting litigious with reporting outlets.

    fuck him so hard.

Don't believe the rumors that he (or any attorney) could do much threatening the press with lawsuits if there is somone willing to speak on the record about this. The person speaking out might be vulnerable, but the press much less so. The laws in various countries are different, of course, I've read that it may be easier to sue on these grounds in Australia, but there are many outlets out of AU reporting this now. If he wants to try to sue, he's got a long list of respondents:

Thanks for the update, as well. Instagram stories are posted more spontaineously and while you could do screencaps of them it may be better to post paraphrases of them, a survivor might post them more impulsively and want to delete them later for good reason. It's worth noting what they say though and sharing in a respectful matter, that would be keeping with their likely intent in posting them in the first place.

never forget the music industry is still an industry functioning within capitalism, full of all the exploitation you would expect

I’ve basically quit music altogether (for the time being) because after years of struggling to make any significant amount of money off of engineering or my own music I got nowhere and had to find a job in a completely different industry where I actually make above a living wage

who exactly does Michael Jackson’s estate consist of? Just curious

If they are referring to his estate, my guess would be that refers to the co-trustees of his trust. Those would be two entertainment lawyers, if I recall.

The beneficiaries of the estate are his children, his mother, and potentially his surviving siblings.

How should the media industry (television, radio, celebrities, etc.) treat Michael Jackson now after the documentary? They didn’t cancel him before, but I think it’s time everyone cancels him now.

They won’t. I think Michael is one of the few who tons of people will turn the other cheek to.

this isn’t even about cancelling, that’s such a basic surface level way to look at shit like this imo, and in this context what does it even mean, the mans dead what difference does it make? at the end of the day this is about examining how victims stories are treated by media when the perpetrator happens to be a mega celebrity and the shortcomings our society has in reckoning with that

I’m mad that it’s a show in Bucharest on top of everything else awful about this.

  17. Looks like Better Off surprise released a new record today, along with a blog post “detailing the ups and downs of the band”, which is maybe the most transparent attempt to casually address sexual assault allegations ever. I’ll link the article but quote the only part that actually matters

    From Then ‘Til Now

The post also indicates that they have shows planned, but doesn’t specify exactly which members will be performing

I don’t know... I know they didn’t handle that right when it happened, but as long as they don’t tour with the accuser and they actually apologized to the victim and they’re okay with it, I’m okay with them.

  19. Yeah they didn't handle it at all well at the time but the accused is no longer in the band at least, so that's a good thing.

Nah. Fuck this band and their weird, aggressive ass supporters. It's been three years since all of that happened. It should not take someone three years to admit their (damaging) mistakes. They put Kayla (the victim) through hell, all to defend a shitty dude who sexually assaulted someone.

  21. Yeah it's good that they dealt with it but it'll be too little too late for a lot of people and with good reason.

That seems fair. I remember hearing and reading some when it first happened, but is there a convenient place to catch up? I searched 'Better Off' in these forums and haven't found anything.

  23. Three years seems like a fucking age these days... I'd like some sort of refresher if one exists.
