Ole has some kinda juju right now, this has to be 4 or 5 times I’ve watched United win under his rein when they haven’t exactly deserved it

I think that's maybe the second we definitely haven't deserved it. Spurs and today but at the same time I don't think Southampton did much worthwhile outside of their two crackers but probably a draw was fair. What are the others you think?

for Crystal Palace, XG was 1.5 Palace to 1.4 United. for Leicester to was 1.6 to 1.4 in favor of Leicester, for Spurs it was 2.0 to .9 in favor of Spurs, against Arsenal it was 1.8 to 1.2 in favor of Arsenal, not sure what today was yet. Obviously XG not the end all be all of measuring a game, but they've been very fortunate at times under Ole

God I hate the xG stat, it doesn't tell the story of a game at all!

I think Palace was an incredibly comfortable game for us. Leicester too.

thought Leicester dominated that game personally but to each their own. no arguing it’s a better team under Ole for sure just think some of the results have been very fortunate

XG can be misleading and isn’t the end all be all for sure (it particularly doesn’t measure teams who block a lot of shots well, like Burnley) but it very often is alarmingly accurate at measuring a large chunk of a season and almost always tends to balance out on a whole season (case in point Arsenal’s unbeaten run earlier this year when they were greatly out performing their Xg, then a downturn came swiftly after that)

With the injury crisis we’re in, i’ll take 3 points however we can get them.

My problem with it was shown perfectly in our match today, which of those goals were "expected"? I'd say none of them. But if you look at the first 5 minutes of both halves we could have scored 4 goals but for good goalkeeping. It doesn't tell the full story of a game.

You could also say we were "dominated" by Liverpool, they have a lot of possession, but we should have won that match.

possession doesn't really factor into Xg whatsoever, the Liverpool-United game you referenced ended 0-0 and was .5 to .5 on XG

Yeah I know that I was just talking in general terms regarding that match.

missed almost all of the first half of the clasico, arrived just in time to see a nice Ramos elbow on Messi

Stats without context just don't work in football. I hate it when people try to prove their point by providing some useless stats.

One example I remember pretty well was Everton-Wolfsburg in the EL 3 or 4 years ago. Everton were scoring early and subsequently leading 3-0 pretty early on. After that they were obviously slowing down and giving more space to Wolfburg. Wolfsburg then had most of the possession and many chances but couldn't really convert them. In the end Everton won 4-1 but the stats had like 7-20 shots on goal. Everyone who didn't see the game and only looked at the stats would say how could Wolfsburg lose that game when they were obviously dominating? Just one example were stats in football are completely misleading.

I think expected goals is a bad name for the stat. It should be called "chance quality" or something.

yeah its a poor name for the stat for sure.

I was using it to support a larger point I was making in reference to United and what I've seen under Ole.

They’d be dumb to get rid of Solari, so that means they will.

They need to offload Marcelo, Isco, and Bale and really commit to forming a new squad under him.
