guys tonight I had to stop at the library earlier to pick a book up for my girl and there was an old man wearing sunglasses sitting at one of the computers looking at escort websites that looked straight out of 2001

    I shit you not

Nick Offerman and Megan Mullaley's should be top priority. Also, don't keep going after that. We probably don't need to hear what Chris Pratt has to say haha

It’s not. I only think once in a generation, elite guard prospects should go that high. Through deductive reasoning you’d realize I that’s what I meant. Nelson was simply an example of the level of talent I look for to draft an interior OL in the top 10.

Cody Ford is not that. He’s a college tackle that’ll have to change positions for the NFL. If you study past trends it’s a very natural conclusion to reach, that guard is not a top importance position, nor is it a scarcely talented position, so taking one too early is functionally a bad value decision. Considering starting guards are OFTEN found in the mid rounds. The guard REALLY has to STAND WAY OUT for me to value them in the upper half of round 1. Which is common knowledge I think, I’m not really saying anything subversive.

I bring him up because they both have the same dilemma. I think Jonah is a better example of a player whose technique at LT could possibly overcome his physical limitations at that position.

They’re related in this discussion because the same doubts arise when we ask if they can play tackle. Jonah has shown a lot more ways of overcoming the lack of length / athletic prowess that most OT have.

I think it’s relevant to compare players with a similar shortcoming to support my point. Comparing players is a legitimate means of making draft judgments. Jonah I could see silencing doubts and being a tackle. Cody uses less extension and worse footwork making it more likely his flaws would be exposed at the OT position.

yes and not one part of this is what you actually said so open with this next time instead of "well he's not better than Nelson so he shouldn't go where he went", cause that's absurd haha.

Cody Ford measured in with longer arms and bigger hands than Jonah Williams.

I think it was obvious what I meant cause Nelson is the only guard the last 20 years that went that high and wasn’t a bust. Obviously I meant, “an elite guard prospect like Nelson”. You ARE being facetious to pretend you didn’t know that’s what I meant.

Goff was the best QB in his draft, and the best QB in the draft often goes at pick 1, even if other rookie QB have been better. Using the Goff / Luck comparison is not the same thing. Guards never go high UNLESS they are better than every other guard prospect in years. You’re being very general about this whereas I was being position specific. Guards ESPECIALLY should be rare talent to go that high

And Williams still uses his length and hands better than Cody. *shrug*

No, I'm not. It actually was unclear. Be clearer.

Which isn't what you just said but okay ;)

Yeah that's fair. Jonah Williams reminds me of Jake Matthews a little bit. He'll be a great tackle eventually or a great guard immediately.

I shouldn’t have to because you KNOW that Nelson was a rare anomaly and that’s clearly why I was bringing it up.

It’s an issue of you taking my points for what they’re worth versus nitpicking my word choice. If a guard isn’t on Nelson’s level he shouldn’t be selected that high. It’s a straightforward statement since it’s collective knowledge in this thread that Nelson was a rare prospect and his value defied the odds. It’s pre-existing context.

Like, by arguing against this, you’re denying that it’s unusual Nelson went so high. Which is disengenuous because you DO know that a guard being taken so high is very unusual.

“Jonah has shown a lot more ways of overcoming the lack of length / athletic prowess that most OT have.”

It is what I said. I didn’t say he was longer and had bigger arms. I said he shows more ability to overcome that issue.

That’s a decent comparison but Jonah was also asked to drive block, and to block for longer in a drop-back rather than spread offense.

He maybe just isn’t as quick footed as Jake

Man, there's this band that released an album I really love back in 2008 and I'm going through the rest of their stuff and it's just nowhere near as good. (Said the Whale is the band)
