I wasn't impressed with this episode, really.

I really don't think this is anything, but did it look like Ramsey stood up right at the last shot?

Visuals and cinematography where fantastic. Plot was rather rehashed.

I did like the bits with Dany though. Gonna be real interesting how Dany and Sansa interact when they finally meet and if Dany will leave her alone in the north.

Battle was well done, but the episode just didn't sit right with me, kind of like the entire second half of this season.

Honestly the battle being a bit predictable doesn't bother me when it was so well done. They actually made me feel something when Rickon died, which I didn't think would happen. And Ramsey's end/Sansa's smile was perfect.

How was Davos suddenly in the same spot where Shireen was burned? I don't remember where exactly that happened or how they were back there. Or I'm just dumb and missed something.

They were camped out in the same area that Stannis camped out at. In the last episode Davos explained how it was tactically advantageous

Man, that might have some of the most satisfying television I've ever watched. Fucking bravo. Plot wise, this is kind of how I thought things woukd go down but who cares. Predictable sure but The Starks have been on the shit side of the grass the entire series and to see them FINALLY get a huge win is immensely satisfying. The tropes didn't matter to me because they were done so well. We all knew RIkon was toast but they gave weight to his death. The claustrophobia of the battle and Jon getting trampled had me shitting myself thinking they were going to lose. Then to top it all off, Ramsay finally gets what's coming to him in the best way. Phew....

It's the best I've ever felt about a piece of media filled with cliche and predictable events. Like holy shit. It played out exactly as someone would think but the DETAILS involved. They made you FEEL in the battle, almost part of it yourself. And then Ramsey's fate.....like, fucking beautiful and horrific at the same time. Oh man.

this review basically nails down my thoughts. Thrones stages an epic battle, but to what end? (experts)

this is also the sort of show where i'm not so invested in the characters individually that much, especially in the show...it's the story i care more about, so all these emotional climaxes you all felt for this episode didn't really hit me as hard

Loved last night's episode. Kind of made the teasing of big battles in previous seasons and then not really showing them worth it when you have two super satisfying battles in one episode.

so did sansa not know where littlefinger was, or did she deliberately hold back that info, or ______? the best rationalization i've seen is she knew she had to hold them back to draw ramsay's forces out in full, but even that seems tenuous at best.

also, as viscerally satisfying as this was and how obviously integral it was to moving the plot of the show forward in a sensible direction, i cant help but think it's kind of a bummer this story is pretty much no longer going to be subverting and warping expectations of fantasy stories any more.

also, come on, three fucking times this show has done the "all is lost...OH WAIT HERE'S A NEW ARMY THAT JUST GOT HERE IN THE NICK OF TIME" get a new trick already

When Stannis and his army fought Ramsay last season they were encamped in the same spot as Jon and his army in this episode.

This was amazing, I don't care about the predictability or hollywood-ness of it, it was just so well done.

This is **not** directed at anyone in this thread, but I am reminded of some Kanye West tweets when I see people complaining about this episode: "Shut the fuck up and enjoy the greatness." "Pitchfork, the album is a 30 out of 10.".

It was said at some point last night I think, but the fact it was predictable is kind of a new feature for the ASOIAF world. Also should make us extremely cautious, as every time someone achieves a major victory, immediately something or someone comes along to subvert it. We've seen this with Dany in Mereen, the Lannisters in King's Landing, Stannis at the Wall, etc, etc. You could infer from the preview that Littlefinger is this force for Sansa and Jon, but I'm not inclined to think it'll be that cut and dry.

I fully expect a lot of nothing out of the next episode.

Was the one where The Hound and Brienne fought an episode 10? I love that episode.

  24. Oh, I didn't necessarily mean it will be satisfying... I'm just saying that there's a lot more than 'nothing' which happens next week. The preview for next week left out all of the action.

I didn't even consider it re-hashed. This happened two other times; when Stannis marched for his claim and lost and when Mance marched for his claim and lost. Stannis and Mance both took a quick liking to Jon and thought of him similar to themselves, as did many others. Outside of those comparisons sprinkled throughout the series, we had a scene right before the battle where Tormund and Davos actually reminiscence about Stannis and Mance and say how Jon is different. Immediately followed by a scene where Mel says she would try to revive Jon because he's who she thought Stannis was. I think it's a pretty obvious parallel, not necessarily them re-hashing the story.

Also, that scene with Yara in the throne room was absolutely perfect.
