Yeah I don’t get it either. I guess the nostalgia is just so strong with some people that they are grasping at some miracle Tom will come back and think everything will be just like it was in 2001.

You can’t discount the fact that in 2016 things are/were quite different than in 2011 in terms of music streaming services and how that plays into units being sold. Plus Bored To Death was a massive hit single, there biggest in well over a decade.

Either way I don’t think anyone can compare the success California had over Neighborhoods.

FUCKIN SAVAGES IN THAT FUCKIN BOX Prestigious

All I know is that Feldmann posted this last year
And I know I'm not supposed to quote wikipedia but I can never see totals anywhere else and it says 408 k sold through Dec 2016. Which is still more in a year than 5 for Neighborhoods at that point which really nobody could've expected losing someone as high profile as Tom.

I agree with all that you mention, my point is that the two aren't EXTREMELY different, California isn't a shit ton more of a success.

RIAA certification is a different thing from Soundscan, they track different things. Both are good indicatiors of sales however, and yes California is RIAA gold whereas Neighborhoods is not

  9. Now do SPS. Or look at the first three years only.

  10. Yes it is. It was way more successful in any metric you pick. Radio, sales, streams, singles, tours ... all of it.

To not include streams on an album that came out in 2016 is just willfully ignoring facts that destroy your argument. It’s how most people listen to music now.

    It ain’t close.

And if you go world wide ... it really ain't close.

(California went gold in the UK this year.)

Man, I hope The Wonder Years and Mark become good friends from that show. The Wonder Years would be an awesome opening act on a blink tour/a run of shows. I don't know how I never thought of that before.

  13. And if you include the deluxe album in too, SPS, worldwide, it's probably close to double what Neighborhoods did.

The numbers I posted are not physical-only, they include streams.

  15. #1 album, a Hot 100 single, #1 on the alt charts -- their first since 2004, literally one of their most successful radio singles ever, certified gold single, Grammy nomination.

I can't let this revisionist history go.

  16. I'm looking at Soundscan right now. Then those are not the correct numbers.

  17. That 408 number is from a BuzzAngle report three years ago. A year later (December 6th, 2017) the single and album were certified Gold.

Me when people try and downplay how improbable and amazing the comeback with California was.

Reading “three years ago” about California makes me feel super old for some reason. Also thinking about Neighborhoods (what I consider “new blink”) being almost 8 years old really hurts.

IDK why, but it blows my mind how all it took was 'California' to be released for blink to be back on top. With the break-up, Neighborhoods, DED, and Tom leaving again....You'd think it would take more than a new member and one album release haha. Again...impressive indeed.

  21. It took a hit song in the right moment. Heh. People can shit on Feldmann, I get why, but that dude is a hit writing savant and "Bored to Death" was a certified summer hit.

I mean, you can't argue given the accolades. I still don't like his guitar production though hahah.

  24. I always think about how the music videos for "Bored to Death" and "Up All Night" have close to the same view number, despite one being out 5 years longer.

Off the top of my head I can’t remember the video for BTD. SOOHM and HISALP, yeah, but for some reason I can’t remember BTD
