I wish so badly I could have seen this band live. I missed their heavy touring days because it was before I was able to get to shows. I nearly went to the tour they did with blink, but I skipped it because I already saw Blink and thought I’d have another chance.

Such a good live band. I saw them play TBP in full which was amazing. And the blink tour

 

I remember seeing these guys live for the first time in 2004 a little after Three Cheers came out. They opened for The Used and Taking Back Sunday at the Aragon Theatre in Chicago. It's so weird thinking back on that show because a lot of people were not familiar (Including me and my friends) with them around that time. Then they BLEW UP. It was awesome to see!

 

I always wonder how big these guys would be if they were still together today. I think they were on their way to become the biggest rock band in the world before the broke up. I like to think they’d be the biggest rock band today if so. Crazy.

 

I honestly don't have a good grasp of how big they were in terms of like touring. I know the last headliner they did in Chicago was Aragon, which is like 5,000 cap. Were they ever headlining arenas on their own?

 

Oh yeah. When I saw them for The Black Parade they played at The Wolstein Center in Cleveland which is a 14k capacity. And I’m pretty sure it sold out

 

The Danger Days tour was all arenas over here.

 

I just never quite knew if they were purposely going for smaller venues for Danger Days or if it's where they were at. At any rate, if they ever come back I think they will be huge.

Yeah I think they’d still be big too.

 

I almost posted something in here earlier today, but decided not to, but the question was going to be, hypothetically, if they did a reunion tour, would they be big enough for arenas...I think it'd be close. They were one of the biggest bands between Three Cheers and Danger Days however every time they toured Cleveland, they were all over the place. As @Bad Frequencies mentioned, they did headline Wolstein Center which is about 14K, but then they came back for the Danger Days tour and headlined House of Blues, which is like, 1200 people. Then they co-headline the Honda Civic Tour with Blink which was played at Blossom (20K but that's where Blink always plays when they come to CLE).

 

I think they would do similar to what FOB did and do a smaller scale at first that would all sell out and then they could easily do arenas imo

 

They could easily sell out arenas. I frequently see kids wearing MCR merch that would have been born when TBP came out

 

Absence makes the heart grow fonder. They will definitely be able to do arenas if they ever come back. I agree that they would do a smaller run first to test demand, and then they'd do a full big tour. But I think the question is really "Would they be able to make more hit albums to keep them in arenas?"

 

Honestly I just want one additional album and a proper send off tour. I’d love more, of course, but I wish I knew the time I saw them would be the last

 

Yea mine was assuming they like come back come back, but I'd be fine with them just coming back for a proper send off as well. I never got to see them, so just having that chance even once.. I'd honestly rather they didn't put any new music in the mix. I do think it'll happen one day, but I don't think it'll be anytime soon unfortunately.

 

I remember their breakup getting a sidebar headline on CNN’s website and that’s when I realized I’d underestimated how big they still were. I think I assumed they shrunk a lot more than they did after DD came out. That said I still feel like their name is super tied into that era of the scene and after a comeback tour I worry they’d quickly turn into a nostalgia act regardless of how good new music was.

 

I went to a traveling Brooklyn Emo Night show in MA last week and we got three MCR songs, if that means anything.

 

I think they'd be able to do arenas pretty easily for a one-off reunion tour.

 

I was always sad I never got to see them headline, but I realized many years later that they played a ridiculously long set (16 songs) opening for Green Day on the second NA leg of the American Idiot tour (Spring of '05.) I saw them then (and a month prior on ToC) but had no recollection of the set being so long. Also saw them on Honda Civic Tour with Blink.

I had a bone to pick with them for a while because they cancelled not one, but two shows on The Black Parade tour in Maine. First, because the band got food poisoning, and then the make-up show in the fall because of logistical issues. I was so, so, so upset. Not their fault, it just sucked that we got hit twice. They never came back.

I go back to their records constantly. I can never decide if I prefer Three Cheers or TBP, but Danger Days isn't all that far behind for me, either. Fewer bands from that era hold up quite as well as theirs, for me.

 

I think the scenario will be:
1. MCR reunites at a secret show unannounced (maybe before Thursday or ADTR or something)
2. MCR plays a big ol' festival (like Riot Fest)
3. MCR announces a world reunion tour (big cities/fests only)
4. MCR records and releases a new album
5. MCR tours on that record (extensively for a year or more, worldwide)
6. MCR disappears off the face of the earth again, maybe this time for 100% except for a show once every decade or something

 

I still don't think they're ever getting back together. Life just isn't that good.

 

I missed my chance to see them when they were in Dallas two nights in a row to attend my friends' rehearsal dinner one night and wedding the next. They are divorced now.. and missing these concerts for that is what upsets me the most.

On another note, I heard I'm Not Okay (I Promise) at the gym the other day and that was a nice surprise.

 

Gerard kind of said as much last week. Said they get a ton of reunion offers but they always pass. Sounded pretty pessimistic they’d ever return.

My bet is they will...eventually.
