I like their happy hour! And their sauces.and Margaritas but I only go there like 3 times a year at most.

Haha i'm just speculating, at my old job i met a handful of good ole italians that were from brooklyn and still live there so idk.

 

Imagine if I came to visit you out of town in Brooklyn and you took me to Olive Garden to get the NYC experience

They make decent texmex but it's not amazing or authentic Mexican at all.

 

My dad lives in a neighborhood that used to be predominantly Italian but they've mostly either moved/died and there is a growing Hispanic population now. Honestly that's the story of a lot of communities on Long Island so you're probably right (I don't actually take it this seriously but it is hilarious how serious Italians can be about their heritage around here).

 

Haha, I'm part italian but my culture/ families culture wouldn't show it. My best friend is full blooded italian and his family shows it and I love everything about it but then there's the obnoxious italian americans I know that are of the 'Jersey Shore' kind.

 

The thing with a lot of Italian Americans in Jersey is that a lot of authentic Italians would look at them and be like, WTF??

I talked about the David Chang series I was watching last night, and they have a conversation about how Italians became Italian-Americans and are now American-Italians, if that makes sense. Like my grandparents and great-grandparents were mostly off the boat and retained a lot of that culture and I grew up seeing it, but my parents grew up in it but feel like they cling to it and my siblings and cousins and I were all influenced by it but don't lead lifestyles like what we grew up with. It's all nostalgia and if I ever had kids they'd see even less of it.

Jersey Shore type Italians are exhausting and are so prevalent around here, honestly the biggest douche bags.

makes so much sense, ah! I love David Chang, i'm a big The Ringer fan so I know him from that. He has a great series of podcasts about him before, during and after opening a new restaurant in LA. Super interesting. I need to watch his netflix show though.
