Has to be something with the Wall, at least as far as the North plot goes.

Poor Rickon, but god damn that felt so good that Ramsay FINALLY wasn't in complete control for once. Even more satisfying than Ramsay's death was Tormund being the one to kill Smalljon. Fuckin' traitor.

As a cliche of battle scenes where things are fucked and a third party comes in to save the day (Han Solo in A New Hope, basically every huge battle in Lord of the Rings), yeah that was pretty tired, it could have been even more satisfying if Ramsay had been done in by his own ego/twisted methods, but the battle wasn't about him. It was about Jon and Sansa. As a Jon and Sansa story, the episode was fucking great. Their dynamics and ideologies pushed against each other in a great way and I like how Jon's stubbornness and emotion continued to get in his way while Sansa's experiences in King's Landing and with Ramsay have pushed her to this incredible, dark, powerful place. I'm really, really invested in what their relationship and dynamic will look like going forward.

Loved Dany meeting Asha, and glad that things are moving forward. This season and the last season have really, really done a good job of keeping things moving forward and feeling like things are simultaneously resolving and setting up for a final chapter, which the latest two books failed hard at.

Dany finally felt interesting for the first time since setting the Unsullied free. Loved her interactions with Tyrion and the Greyjoys.

I thought it was also very interesting to see how they finally showed how "dark", rash and emotional Jon has got after coming back. I have been waiting to see if that comes into play after the conversation from Thoros about losing pieces of you.

Master of not knowing what the hell I'm doing.

I seem to be in the minority and was a little disappointed by this episode, might just be because I was speculating over it too much but the whole affair seemed pretty predictable to me. Ramsay's method with letting Rickon back to Jon was agonising though.
Even though it was predictable, the cinematography was absolutely fantastic. Loved the over-the-shoulder shots of Jon in the thick of battle.

That's what you call taking Wun Wun for the team.

Everything I wanted to happen, happened. No good guys died that I figured were goners. Except Wun Wun. I like how Ramsay gave him one last head nod with the Wun-to-Wun combat statement.

Knew Rickon would die. He made it longer than I thought he would anyhow. I was actually worried for a second that Jon might black out or worse when he was being trampled. I was actually worried for a second that he had lost Longclaw for a second. Out of everything, that's what I was thinking about when he managed to fight his way up for breath Holy hell, those piles of bodies. Insane.

Ramsay's death was probably the best case scenario (as a fan). Jon took him down with nothing but a shield. So badass.

    "Thanks for the armada"

That look on Little Finger's face when we see The Knights of the Vale trampling the Bolton's army.

Danaerys really does like Yara. That's obvious. Glad to see them reach an understanding before Euron gets there. Her final army is starting to finally take form. They went from having zero ships to now having, what, a couple hundred? Those of thE Masters, and the 100+ Yara and Theon towed in their wake.

So much to digest. I need to watch this episode again.

But I guess it makes sense that he wouldn't be at that battle. He'd just die for sure. He should have been around the camp though during the scenes before.

    Impressions:

It was kinda predictable, but thankfully most of the stuff I thought would happen happened only moments after I thought of it (the things I felt in my gut at the start were Rickon's death - though it was even more messed up than I imagined haha, Ramsay's death, and Littlefinger's army showing up).

And what an amazing opening to the episode with Dany and her dragons tearing shit up in yet another battle. Two epic battles in one episode, holy crap. What an episode. The most brutal battle in the series + the satisfying death of one of the worst villains + rad dragon and ship warfare CGI scenes + several memorable moments that move the plot forward (Yara and Theon meeting/reuniting with Tyrion and Dany, Davos discovering the truth about Shireen, the showdown between The Masters and Dany and The Unsullied, etc) = one of the most satisfying episodes of the show ever for me.

Yeah, BOTB felt a bit like a traditional medieval fantasy trope where the good army goes up against the bad army outnumbered and another army comes in to save the day, but in a series that has been all about subverting those tropes almost to the point of absurdity where things seem to go horrifically wrong literally all the time, it was refreshing to finally watch a satisfying victory for the likeable characters. Ramsay's death was the best. All those seasons, bragging about how well he trained his dogs and how he feeds people to them and how he fed his own stepmother and newborn baby bro to them, etc. To end up as dogfood was perfect, hahaha. /sadism
