Yeah, but how does it compare to Blade? That's the real question we should all be considering.

I'm still waiting for any CBM to have a cooler opening then the first Blade.

Not that the two can really be compared other than that they both are comic book adaptations but, as perfect as this movie was, it can't beat The Dark Knight. Still the gold standard and yet to be topped 11 years later.

In all actuality, if you put Spider-Verse next to any comic book movie, I'll punt the other movie off a gosh darn bridge to get to Spider-Verse.

I'm only, what, 2 months into having that film in my life? So, maybe I'll change my mind eventually. But, like, no superhero can even sniff how much I love Spider-Man. So, to get a film as expertly crafted as Spider-Verse, AND have it understand the property better than every previous film combined? It's not even fair.

So, I really have only watched the Christopher Nolan Batman movies, Homecoming, and this. Is there anything else you all would recommend? I know Batman Animated Series is highly regarded so I'm gonna watch that for sure. I'm definitely looking for more animated Spider Man.

The entire DCAU is maybe the best thing comic book related ever done. Batman The Animated Series - Superman the Animated Series - Batman Beyond - Justice League - Justice League Unlimited. They pulled off one connected universe and stories for so long so well. If you haven't see those, watch them all in that order.

In terms of animated Spider-Man, the 90s cartoon is the gold standard. Also, play Marvel's Spider-Man if you own a PS4, it's great.

For the movies, Iron Man, Avengers 1, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy 1 & 2, Civil War, Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Infinity War. Ant-Man 1 & 2, Captain American 1, and Doctor Strange are also pretty good. I like Iron Man 3 a lot even though most other people don't. Really the only MCU movies I would say skip entirely are Iron Man 2 and the first two Thor movies. Even Age of Ultron has some cool stuff that make it worth seeing at some point.

Outside of the MCU, Logan is the best Marvel film.

Concerning recent DC, do yourself a favor and just watch Wonder Woman; it stands entirely on its own and is just so far above the others that it's kind of a joke. Maybe Aquaman too, but I haven't seen it so I can't speak to its quality despite hearing good things.

The one Spider-Man cartoon that I feel confident recommending is Spectacular Spider-Man. Others are good for their time (I really dug the 90s one as a kid), but Spectacular might be the only one worth coming to without nostalgia.

I'm also intrigued by the current animated series, I think just called Marvel's Spider-Man, though I haven't really spent time with it yet. But, it seems pretty decent.

Speaking of Spider-Man and movies... I'm personally convinced that every Spidey film pre-Spider-Verse is filled with both good and bad, with preferences largely depending on what highs you prefer and what lows you're most willing to endure. My favorite live action take so far is the Andrew Garfield/Marc Webb batch, even though they are super rough around the edges and are most people's least favorite of the three versions; what they get right really speaks to me. Like, Amazing Spider-Man 2 might have the biggest mess of a script with the most urgent need of a skilled editor to reshape... but, it also has the highest highs, imo. Amazing Spider-Man might be the overall strongest story in spite of some missteps here and there. The Tobey Maguire/Sam Raimi films, which most people love, are rougher for me, mostly because I think the leads are mostly rough. Though, I've grown to appreciate Spider-Man 2 a lot for what it is, in spite of really disliking Tobey; less focused story than people admit, but great filmmaking overall and some fantastic highlights, especially everything with Doc Ock.

If we're talking comic book movies in general, outside of Batman and Spider-Man... I could list a bunch of my favorite MCU films, give predictable props to Logan & Wonder Woman, etc...

Instead, I'll just say that Punisher: War Zone (get Lexi Alexander more work now, please and thank you) and X2: X-Men United (yes, it was directed by Bryan Singer; I respect skipping it for that reason, though it might be good enough to be worth pirating or buying secondhand) are both in my top tier of comic book films. Both have pretty specific tones that might not be for everyone, but both nail what they're going for so well.

are there any really dope steelbooks or special editions available for this? i just see the reg bluray/dvd on amazon and one "special edition" on there that doesn't actually say what extra stuff is included that sets it apart

Target has one that comes with a book. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse (Target Exclusive) (Blu-Ray + DVD + Digital)

I've seen some steelbooks pop up, but they're mostly on eBay and I'm not 100% sure how legit they are. Found one from Zavvi, but I don't know anything about the place. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse - Zavvi Exclusive Steelbook Blu-ray | Zavvi US

    Hope this helps!

I really hope the regular DVD for this has the deleted scenes and that, I can't afford blu-ray but I WANT DELETED SCENES
