I think the bridge in Parachute was the one that really got me.

Hold my hands out like I'm starting to break.
I'm seeing now what I'm doing to the people around me. I'm not supposed to care this much.
I ask myself; yeah, who am I? Well, to anything, have I lost my health?
I still harbor all my anger. I've been staring at the color in my veins, how they stay, how I still feel I'm tired, but awake. Somewhere out there there is someone thinking of what I haven't gave them yet and feeling that I can't in my disarray.

Yeah I went down, yeah I found a way
In the city where my father was born
I had a dream I moved out west
I finally found out what I wanted to be so I picked up where I left
And I waited two more years and covered up my ears
I think I'm ready to sing this time

That was when I knew this was something special

Likewise, ha. I like a lot of their stuff but nothing else ever really hit me quite like that song. So good.

Disconnect changed my entire view on music and I've been absolutely hooked ever since. Have traveled embarassing lengths to see them play over the years. Will always be my favorite band.

i may get better but we won't ever get well Prestigious

this was actually the case for both War Paint and Reach for the Sun as albums. wasn't a big fan of either until they just clicked. (WP first, then RFTS.)

in a perfect world, this band would be what The Wonder Years currently are (minus the controversy and Codys Paynes bullshit). Just relistened to Golden Record and its really superb. Its taken some time but I'd put it right beside WP and RFTS. I totally get why people find it off or not very good, but it really blew me away this listen.

Are we playing the favorite lyrics game? There are so many with this band. I think the bridge of "Miscommunication" is one of the parts that always hits really hard for me:

She said, "I'm tired of always being second best
Since everything this year has been a mess
Half my family's gone for good so here I sit
I need a comfort in a boy that takes my hits
Do you remember when we met? We were alone
It was middle of the night outside my home
We stayed up late just for the start of something new
I can't believe your distance left us"

"if you could only keep me alive" always was my favorite lyric for the longest time. Even got it as a tattoo. I kind of wish I could rewind and choose something from RFTS, but I wanted it for years, so I'm still cool with it.

    top 10

    Work In Progress
    Settle Down
    Catholic Girls
    Northern Lights
    Siren
    Knives
We Will Wait In The Fog
    War Paint
    Miscommunication
No Ones Gonna Need You More

All of those songs are intricately entwined to very specific and meaningful moments in my life, be they joyous or tumultuous or downright miserable memories (Work In Progress was the first song I heard after an attempted suicide attempt, I'm not sure I've ever cried so hard). I'm starting to realize just how much this trilogy of albums means to me. I cant thank this band enough for every song they've written and every lyric that drips with emotion.

Also, while on my TDS binge I've noticed just how....odd Paynes rhythm guitar is. He basically functions as the bass player, buoying the songs with a steady 3 or 4 chords while the other guitar and the bass add the more colorful textures. Just interesting to note since usually a rhythm guitarist is playing several chords and different keys to add a sense of flow to the song. Payne also seems to favor Am-F-C progressions which is pretty standard but still used really tastefully.

I'll take my time and move on from all of this
It's all about the rolling waves
    You leave me cold
    I'm wandering and positive
So what if I don't want to wait
They're not tying me off right now
And though it doesn't make sense
I lost all feeling inside my mouth
And I can't handle my hands

kind of means a lot with whats going on rn

Did this lead singer ever start a new band or project post Dangerous Summer?

Negative. He had a little girl and seems to be settling into fatherhood nicely. He's also been fairly quiet when pressed (on social media) about new music.

I honestly don't think we'll ever get anything from him outside of guest work, which is also sparingly.

This band could write a bridge like no other. It's also interesting seeing some of their peers influence their music ("I'm So Pathetic" has TBS written all over it, "Work In Progress" has a big Brand New vibe, "We Will Wait In The Fog" feels like an attempt to make a kind of indie rock song with the keyboard adding a wrinkle into their music palette in addition to the guitars).

Yeah, AJ was one of the best in the game when it came to writing bridges.
