I remember Love Pt 1 & 2 being my favorites a couple of years ago. I just dug what was going on there. The Dream Walker might be the most consistent and interesting album though. That’s probably due to Tom not playing at all on that record and Ilan playing everything.

I believe so. The playing style is even completely different and Tom and Ilan are the only two credited. I believe Tom even said Ilan did all of the music.

Interesting. And Tom has gone on record as saying this was the best album he's ever done too.

Ilan has his own solo project though. It'll be him working to a brief from Tom.

I’ve always been a big AVA fan and am excited to see what they do next. So many high school memories with the first two records. I thought the Love albums were pretty badass as well. TDW had a ton of potential, and I really wanted to love it but something about the production makes it feel kinda empty and lifeless at times. And I have no idea what he’s singing about. (On Chasing Shadows EP too, but the production is so much better, and I love those songs)

I’m hoping that 3+years, the longest break he’s taken from releasing music, have rejuvenated him. Also interested to see if this will be their first album without some over the top concept/message. Would be cool to have this be a self-titled album, and just be about the band/music.

Hoping for some personal lyrical content as well.

Well Tom has certainly gone through a lot in the 3 plus years in terms of leaving blink while seeing the band have massive success without him and a possible break up with his wife so this album could definitely have a lot of personal lyrical content.

  13. I really miss Tom writing personal or what felt to be personal lyrical content

The Wolfpack demo #1 was personal as hell, and maybe my favourite thing he wrote after Untitled, then they totally blandified it for the album :(

  15. I refuse to acknowledge the dream walker demos. It was just too much - and I PAID for them! I hear good things about that song - maybe I’ll revisit it.

that's the only one I really go back to, though some of the instrumental interludes they cut are pretty cool. but when he starts yelling in the chorus of Wolfpack demo - chills, man

I loved "Wolfpack" when it came out. I also love the song "Heartbeats" by Jose Gonzalez. When I found out Jose actually covered "Heartbeats" I looked up the real version and it sounded like Wolfpack but modernized. Thing is...."Heartbeats" came out wayyyy before Wolfpack. Check it out below. Its pretty unbelievable.

Yeah the instrumental is like tone for tone. The verses sound exactly like demo #1.

Really wish they had kept the rawness of the chorus of demo #1. Sounds like old Tom.

I don’t understand the personal aspect of it though. What did you mean @Rowan5215

Yup that's why I have trouble with AVA and don't really connect with it. It just feels like him trying too hard to make big stadium rock music ala U2.

lyrically and vocally, I meant. that's the rawest shit we've heard from Tom maybe in all of AVA (Rites of Springs is the only real contender I can think of). the album version is just more generic stuff about a girl but demo #1 is specific and real as fuck
