Really wanna like this band cause I like Bradley’s voice a lot but man they bore me. Hoping this one changes that

    The spiciest meme

yea I could see why some people might be a bit iffy on the album, I think it's solid though. Might not QUITE live up to the hype of Givin' Up but I enjoy it still. Outside of the first 3 singles, I think Help You Out and Wait, Stay are standout tracks.

I will also be on board the "131 is nigh perfect" train

Heard Givin’ Up the other day and loved it - checked the album today and was pleasantly surprised. However, the guitar in xo now reminds me of San Marcos by Brockhampton and I can’t unhear it

    what a waste of wood

So Relativity is one of my all time favs.. This is a completely different sound, right? Are the last 2 worth checking out?

it is a completely different sound, and don't expect another Relativity, but yes. 131 is genuinely a near-classic, and I absolutely recommend it if you're into Anberlin, Copeland, Circa Survive or any bands in that scene. this new one has more of an M83 vibe going but it's fantastic pop nevertheless

This is a lot of fun. Nothing on here is as immediately compelling as the first single was, imo, but that could just be because of how surprising it was at the time. I enjoy it though and want them to keep exploring this sound further.

Really loved this on first listen. But I do agree that Givin' Up is still the standout track for me. Just a perfectly executed track and the perfect first introduction to this new sound

XO, So Bad, and the last two (kinda blended together for me) were my favs from the new.

I'm on my 3rd listen this morning and Wait, Stay has grown on me each time. Cautious might still be my favorite, I need more time with the other songs though.

Great job! You're so right; you'd think at this point we'd have grown up and grown on from shaming bands for making pop music, but even when bands like Paramore and Emarosa who occupied different music spaces over time can come out with some of their best work to date you'll still find people mad that a band has "sold out" or was better back when they weren't making pop music - which is just another way to say that a band is not doing what you want.

The post-hardcore subreddit was crying the other day about Emarosa's new sound; I mean I guess you don't have to like it, but when a band stays true to themselves and writes what they want and it's damn good who am I to judge. :shrug2:

(but also this album is fantastic and they're wrong)

We reach for the longest shadow

The only single I listened to more than once was Givin' Up, so I'm really digging the other released singles in context. Initial listen left me a little disappointed with how it ended. Hell of It could've been a lot better with more variation in the chorus.

We reach for the longest shadow

Can't really expect a subreddit full of Jonny fanboys to have an open mind going into a record made by his old band that is completely devoid of the sound they had when he was in the band.
