I personally don't get the big deal if Sixto is dealt.

  3. My girlfriend takes offense to the idea that I could tell when a basketball game will end. Or as she puts it “why have there been four minutes left for the last hour?”

Yeah, I don't think the Phillies do this unless they are very confident in getting Harper.

Mets are barely 3rd place in this division and that would only be if Harper doesnt re-sign in Wash. which i don't think is likely. Braves and Phillies are going to obliterate this division.

This is true but even with that happening the games are still over in 2 1/2 hours, give or take 10 minutes.

  17. That is true. But I do love having a game to watch all night. Heh. I watch multiple basketball games some nights and people watch like four football games it seems on the weekends. I dunno. I’m time obsessed in most of my life and yet it doesn’t bug me about baseball that much. I think they should speed it up if they can with some easy moves, but if you could tell your friends a game is 90 minutes on the dot every game do you think more would become fans? I don’t think my friends that don’t like it now would start.

yeah they were talking about this on the morning show i listen to yesterday, someone called in and asked (genuine curiosity) if they could recall when the whole "make the games shorter" crusade started, because it seems, not pointless, but, if they can shave what, 7 minutes off an average game, are you really going to pick up that many more fans? i really don't think so. i know that an average NL ballgame is going to run the 2:45-3hour mark, and that's about as long as any football game and a little longer than your average basketball game.

point is, i don't think they're ADDING any fans by shortening the games by 5 minutes here and there, and i also don't think the people that gave up on the game because of how long it took to get through a game would come BACK if you could promise them they'd save 6 minutes every night.

just play the darn game and ban the shift.

  21. Retweet. Man I hated the Phils a decade or so ago and it's gotten to the point now where I'm pretty indifferent.

    That's gonna change

This is all fair. I originally brought it up earlier because several of the things that MLB IS looking into would improve pace of game such as 20 second pitch clock and pitchers facing a minimum of three batters (less pitching changes during the same inning) so it's obviously something they are trying to improve.

But you’re right, a difference of 5-10 minutes won’t ultimately do anything to add fans. To be clear, I'm not necessarily speaking for myself, as I still watch and love baseball and my point earlier about extra innings going on for 4, 5, 6 hours wasn't that it wasn't exciting (because it is) but the average person is not going to sit in front of a TV for 4, 5, 6 hours to watch that. Hell, I've definitely found myself watching extra inning games and thinking 'man, I wish this never ends' but that's because we're already huge baseball fans and enjoy the project.
