I'm still dying for a "Best of" record that rearranges their songs acoustically or through other stripped down arrangements. It wouldn't be a lame "playlist" greatest hits record that way. And as we all know, their acoustic versions are so unique from their studio renditions. That said, I'd also kill for an entire record a la those AOL Sessions. Thrice&M? #MetallicaJoke

Although, AOL sessions would probably work on a record with acoustic arrangements.

I'm beyond annoyed that "Whistleblower" (Live) hasn't hit YouTube yet. You know these aren't Thrice shows when the live footage is this meager.

    Vinyl....

Palms sounds to me like they expended every drop of energy just into getting those songs on the album. I just can’t fathom that there are any b-sides to put out for a 7” or anything. I feel like if there were b-sides then they would have just been on the album instead of songs like Hold Up A Light.

And now for something I know I’m going to be hated and ridiculed for. Looking at the discussions about rankings... I don’t ever listen to Illusion or Identity. In my mind their discography begins with first impressions and their next album was Artist. I don’t even include Identity or Illusion because in my mind they don’t even exist. Im not saying that they are trash or anyone who likes them is somehow less. I just don’t care for them and deny they exist. I’m so sorry. Please don’t make me the next Mike J.

I appreciate this sentiment. Thrice has evolved from the band that wrote those early records into something completely different. If you dont have an emotional or nostalgic affinity for those records I can see why you would omit then entirely. I was 13 when I burned a copy of my cousins Identity Crisis CD and I remember when Illusion came out. Those early albums are apart of me. I recognize their flaws and treat them like old photos, a snapshot of a young band at a certain time just starting out writing songs that spoke to me. I've grown up with thrice and am so glad they've taken the trajectory they have but I'd be lying if I said those first 2 albums aren't important to me.

Would absolutely love a reimagined greatest hits album.
They are creative enough to pull off something interesting that doesn’t feel like a cheap acoustic cash in.

    Also listened to palms tonight.
Just breathe and blood on blood are so fucking good.

Dustin’s restrained vocals and lyrics are really some of his best work. Soulful. Rhythmic. Patterned.

Obligatory hold up a light shrug. Lol
I really have grown to love the guitar. But the lyrics and vocal performance make me cringe every time.

    Listening to major minor now.

Does anyone else think this album is completely unique in how the drums are mixed?

I think it's the best Riley has sounded, but I don't know anything about sound production or mixing lol.

I think M/M is the best Riley has sounded. Palms is the best Ed has sounded. Artist is the best Teppi has sounded. TBE is the best Dustin's voice has sounded.

Riley does some great stuff on M/M. It's one of the few saving graces for me. Do not like how the album is mixed though. It is not pleasing

Yeah I'm not schooled in production or mixing at all but the drums on Major Minor sound amazing

I also love the way the drums sound on Gaslight Anthem's Sink or Swim, because I feel like they are kind of similar to Major Minor's.

Can any audiophiles teach me why that is? I love learning about this stuff

Teppei is mostly buried on that record, one of the million reasons why they aren't fond of that record. He sure sounds rad on Abolition, though.

@Mike J your weird slander against Artist is taking a crazy turn if you are now going to deny all the incredible guitar work on that album

Yea I really like the vocal approach to Palms. It's not abrasive or over the top. Just the right amount of loudness at times and quite at other points. And DK always delivers on the passion aspect. I do miss the intensity of songs like Death from Above, or Vheissu era songs but I think they would have been out of place on Palms. Great variety in delivery here.

I think everything about M/M is just blisteringly loud. I remember @sophos34 playing me some stuff from the album with his studio monitors and it didn’t sound that good to me at all. He can elaborate much further than I can if he cares to, but I name dropped him just because that experience with him changed how I felt about the album a bit
