It's nobody's battle but your own. Prestigious

Finally played the teal album last night. Not too bad for a novelty record.

PD is just White pt. 2.

The only thing I want/need from Weezer these days is a fun album and PD is that in spades.

the SS2K, album 5 demos and Maladroit demos have a ton of really cool stuff, I definitely need to revisit again soon. There are just SO many songs and b-sides from that era, it's nuts

That album is fucking great, it's still either my third or fourth favorite from them

a really great album that got overshadowed by White a bit. it's a shame the best song (Everybody Needs Salvation) got shafted in true Weezer fashion, but it's one of their most consistent

EWBAITE restored my faith in this band. It's a fantastic album. But yeah, White came out and overtook it for the #3 all-time spot only a year later so I also feel like it got a raw deal. Like, its greatness couldn't even be fully appreciated because a somehow even better record was right around the corner. Still their fourth-best record though.

There’s a plethora of great songs in the quite massive demos and b-sides collection — I believe I have well over 250+ songs from them overall. It’s actually pretty fun to listen in order of recording to see where they were headed, and what they would eventually release as an official album.

Not everything works, but they certainly get experimental and Rivers’ lyrics are fucking... bizarre (as usual). Weezerpedia is definitely the best reference guide — and most of the demos & b-sides are relativity easy to find.

Ewbaite is probs my 3rd favorite Weezer album. Except for back to the shack, it’s amazing.

Going back through their discography is always an adventure to say the least! But one I enjoy despite the ups and downs.

I have a question that perhaps a more diehard fan can answer: Weezer formed in 1992, and got signed to Geffen just a year later? How... exactly did that happen? Were their early demos just that strong and they got discovered early on by some A&R person? I can’t really find info about this... to me it feels like that sort of quick massive rise doesn’t happen anymore except to artists that get accused of being “industry plants” (a term I hate by the way).

This was covered in a old official Weezer biography that was put out before Make Believe; it talks about Rivers’ childhood and the formation of the band and all that, before talking about the usual stuff with Pinkerton and Matt Sharp and the hiatus and Green and all that. It’s definitely in there.

If I remember right based on a book I read 15 years ago, the answer is someone discovered them playing live in a club in LA and offered them a deal. I’m not sure that they had a demo or anything at that point - they were just playing Blue album songs in their early forms live.

Oh hey, here’s that book. I remember it being really awesome. My memory could be deceiving. But I know it talks about how Weezer was formed and got signed. https://www.amazon.com/dp/1550226193/?tag=absolutepunk-20

That’s awesome. And again, I feel like that’s a story that really couldn’t happen nowadays in that same way. Which honestly is a shame, because I think some virtually unknown bands/artists just have that “it” factor and deserve a big signing/promotional push. But to be signed straight to a major nowadays you either have to have a huge online following or go viral in some way I feel like... otherwise it’s a long, slow grind to maybe make it to that level of popularity one day.
