My mom must have really loved me because when I was in 9th grade I was on huge Weezer kick and whenever I had the aux I would play stuff from all their albums

  2. it's because Weezer has a subset of passionate angry dorks who probably have Pinkerton tattoos

the funny thing about the criticism is that these people are like "why can't Weezer grow up" and I'm like "why can't YOU grow up?" - fucking move on

Yeah I was in the 8th grade when Green came out and I just remember all my friends being hyped on it. Hash Pipe was like the most played song that year.

    Amen.
2 years ago I was on a date with a girl and somehow Weezer came up when we're in my car. She goes on the typical "Blue/Pinkerton are masterpieces, everything else is trash" rant. But then she admitted she hasn't listened to anything since Make Believe. So I said I was gonna play a song from White that I think she'd like and she got really angry and aggressive, saying that if I were to play the song (which she's never heard) it would "taint her memory of a once great band" and she'd never forgive me.

That was our second date. There was no third.

Yeah, Green is solid. I don't understand the negativity toward it, it's a breezy pop album that is fun to listen to and definitely easy to get through.

We Are All On Drugs is a bad song and no one is talking about it. Worse than Beverly Hills, in my book.

I loved Green when it came out, but I think the repetitive of nice kind of kills it on repeat listens. All of the solos are just copies of whatever the melody of the song is. As said, it's a breezy listen that I don't really get would spark any kind of intense love or hatred. It's perfectly fine.

Yeah plenty songs worse than Beverly Hills. The Girl Got Hot, In The Mall, Love Is The Answer, Troublemaker, We Are All On Drugs. 5 easy ones right away

Musically I think Troublemaker kind of rules, lyrically though... woof lol

“Who needs stupid books? The alphabet-y crooks”

(Ok I just looked up the lyrics and apparently it’s “they are for petty crooks” which is...not better?”

    While we’re talking about it:

Make Believe, minus Beverly Hills and WAAOD is a cohesive, crunchy power-pop record that fits right next to Green and Maladroit and would be, in my view, an absolute classic. It’s 10 songs and 37ish minutes, with an already hit single (their biggest song off of that was Perfect Situation), a second one that could have been huge if it was pushed (This isn’t Such a Pity), some of Rivers’ most personal and emotional lyrics ever, and a great closer. That album would be an absolute classic for Weezer fans.

It’s like they were in one headspace for 10 songs and then thought, ‘we need two dumb singles for MTV.’ Which is fine - I’ll defend BH and WAAOD as being okay and fun, especially live. But it’s definitely weird when you take those two out and listen to the rest, because what’s left does sound like more of a cohesive record than what we actually have.

The album as a whole is terrible, but honestly I still enjoy Autopilot and Unbreak My Heart.

Yeah Troublemaker isn't great but it's nowhere near as bad as Beverly Hills.
