Thrice might rival Anberlin as one of my 2 favorite artists in terms of B-side output.

 

Agreed. Lost songs is a great album!

My favorite three-song stretch that Thrice ya done is between Dust-Stand-Red Sky and Exile-Last-Wood

 

That's the thing about Beggars: the two heaviest songs were purposefully left off.

 

Beggars is my fav.
Least favorite b sides tho.

Yeah Palms was super disappointing. It's right on the border of mediocre and good to me. I just have no desire to return to it

 

There's a few tracks on Palms that I absolutely love: Just Breathe, Blood on Blood, and Beyond the Pines. The first three tracks are okay, but the rest of the album does nothing for me at all. It's either my least favorite Thrice album or second least.

 

A Branch in the River and Everything Belongs?

 

I'm very interested to hear anybody's input on this question: Why did Palms fall flat for you guys? Coming off of To Be Everywhere... they had a tough task of delivering on the follow up. Most Thrice fans seemingly loved TBEITBN and it was a very successful comeback off of the hiatus so I'm genuinely curious as to what you guys wanted/expected from Palms.

 

Those would be my next favorite songs on the album, but they're kind of forgettable for me.

People listing Palms so highly in their rankings need to acknowledge their recency bias.

I mean Palms is good but Thrice‘s discography is not „good“ my peoples.

 

This isn't to say that I don't think their next album can't end up as my all-time favorite. This one just didn't pan out that well for me.

Palms is great. I rank it on par with, or better than, just about everything but Vheissu and Beggars.

 

Gore by Deftones is a similar album to me. I love it but acknowledge that it doesn't crack the top of their excellent discography.

 

Enough time has passed where I don't think there is a recent bias anymore. Palms has some real magic moments on it, so I can see why it's high on people's lists. Going back on this thread, this album was called their best and better than beggars and now that's flipped. Everyone has their own reasons why, but don't hate on the people who didn't flip

 

If someone who doesn't like Palms would like to elaborate on why I'd honestly love to hear it. Production choices? Sequencing? Song quality? Heaviness or lack there of? Just curious.

 

Production choices, sequencing, lack of heaviness... these are all things I can recognize and get past. For me, I don't think some of the songs are very good. So, song quality.

 

I'm not saying it shouldn't be up there, all I'm saying is that people should re-examine how much of it is is their recency bias. If they still think it's dope as hell more power to them.

 

I don't see how it's recency bias, I think it's of higher quality than a good amount of their other albums. I enjoy it more than the others, nothing to do with how recent I listened to it. Most Thrice albums have duds for me, Beggars doesn't so it's on the top of my list. By duds I don't mean terrible songs, but one's that are meh to my ears. Also my evolving tastes in music have influenced the list, if you asked me like 5 or 6 years ago my list would look very different. I'll provide some context to my list:

The Alchemy Index (No duds)
Palms (Hold up a Light, A Branch in the River to a lesser extent)
The Artist in the Ambulance (Dud for me Hoods on Peregrine)
The Illusion of Safety (Dud for me is A Living Dance Upon Dead Minds, Where Idols Once Stood)
Major/minor (Yellow Belly, Listen Through Me)
To be Everywhere is to be Nowhere (Wake Up, Death from Above, Blood on the Sand)
Identity Crisis (Unquestioned Answers, Under Par, In Your Hands, Ultra Blue)
