Ofc I agree with the snub for Collette. I still haven’t gotten around to seeing Suspiria, so I’m not sure about the soundtrack. I enjoyed Revenge for what it was, but I’d hardly consider the directing anything triumphant. I think the film was perfectly timed with the MeToo movement, making it resonate more. It’s not horror, but still a brutal film, You Were Never Really Here had an amazing female director.

Gonna go ahead and do this cause it's slow at work. My votes:

    Best Wide Release: Halloween
    Best Limited Release: Mandy
    Best Streaming Premiere: Apostle
Best Foreign: Terrified (but it's also the only one I saw out of these)
    Best First Feature: Ghost Stories
Best Series: Hard choice between Sabrina and Hill House. Ultimately went with the latter.
Best Actor: I gave it to Nic Cage cause he really went for it in the role.
Best Actress: Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween)
Best Supporting Actor: Alex Wolff (Hereditary)
Best Supporting Actress: Milly Shapiro (Hereditary)
Best Director: John Krasinski (A Quiet Place)
    Best Screenplay: Ari Asher (Hereditary)
Best Score: Thom Yorke (Suspiria) Best part of the remake imho.
Best Makeup FX: Damien Leone (Terrifier) Thought this movie was ehhh but the antagonist is well done and creepy as fuck
Best Creature FX: Nicholas Podbrey & Werner Pretorius (The Cleanse)
Best Kill: Halloween (When Michael kills Drew Scheid/Oscar in the backyard)

It’s a great slow burn. Throw back stylings to the 70’s. It’s my favorite Ti West movie by far. Also fell in love with Jocelin Donahue, I wish we saw her in more stuff.

I'm biased because upon watching it for the first time, I realized part of it was shot at my college

I'll never forget the first time I watched it. I knew nothing about it going in, and still feel like it's the one the scariest movies I've seen to this day.

Girlfriend and I watched Ted Bundy about a month ago. Low budget, yes, but weirdly very entertaining and the guy that plays Bundy goes for it.

Finally watched new Halloween. Appreciated the throwbacks and intelligence/non exploitation of the female characters. It did feel odd to me tho like when it was over I was like oh. I think it's cause I'm used to the typical slasher chase in a movie and that didn't rly happen so I guess it subtly subverted my expectations a few times. I liked it but I never rly felt tense or like the stakes were high. I only felt emotionally invested in the babysitter and Laurie, but that one relied on feelings from the original.

Also I need a false island counter basement asap

what is probably seen as a nitpick that i had about the new Halloween was that Laurie has this bad ass house that she's like overthought to the zillionth degree and then almost immediately fucks every part of it up. logic says that you can plan things perfectly but in the panic of the moment you aren't going to react as you thought, so it makes sense why things play out like they did, i mean she hadn't seen Michael in 40 years so obviously thinking about him vs seeing him is gonna do something to you but aside from the last "puzzle piece" she had in place it seemed like the house set up was a lot for nothing and almost screwed herself over more than helped her

Started watching Bone Tomahawk and did not expect the opening scene to be the clown from House of 1,000 Corpses (and other RZ films) to be talking with David Arquette about properly slitting throats lmao
