Here are the figures for gun violence in 2016 so far:

    Total number of incidents: 23,843
    Number of deaths: 6114
    Number of injuries: 12,514
    Number of children killed/injured: 259
    Number of teens killed/injured: 1308
    Mass shooting: 141
    Accidental shooting: 1059

How anyone can see these figures and say "oh guns aren't a problem" I have no idea

Yea, there are always these stories of kids getting their hands on a gun and shooting either themselves or someone else, and it isn't right, these parents need to get their acts together.

I grew up with two correctional officers in the family, both of whom were trigger happy gun collectors (my aunt and uncle). I started shooting guns from the time I was like 10; handguns, rifles and even an AK47 that my uncle got some how. My uncle was always standing right next to me showing me what to do, that's more that some of these dumbass parents are doing.

Because when they're optional, people (especially paranoid people who think the government is out to get them) don't do them. If the gun manufacturer makes them standard, they get used.

The idea of a 10-year-old shooting a gun is absolutely bat-shit insane to me, as someone from the UK

It's worth noting that the Mass Shooting number includes injuries and not only deaths.

i'm writing a book, leave me alone.

what if as a start to gun control / security measures:

people who owns guns for hunting (rifles and such) had to keep their gun at a secure, non-home location? like some sort of universal bunker or something. especially since most hunting seasons are only a few weeks or months long, it gets high powered weaponry out of houses where it can be stolen or made readily available when someone snaps or is extremely drunk / pissed off.

i know it's not an end-all be-all answer, and there isn't necessarily one, but i could see even something like this making people super, super pissed off. my uncle being one of those people who hunts a lot and owns tons of guns for hunting but... if it's not hunting season... why need the gun around? bad analogy, but people who have sports cars for summer - they keep them in storage during winter / crappy weather months (most). and usually this is not in their garage, but at an off site facility. why not the same for hunting weaponry?

Yea I've heard this before. Since I'm not a hunter I can't comment directly, but the hunters that I know personally will not leave their weapon in some other place for months on end.

If they HAD to, then that's a different story.

it's certainly not a perfect solution, it has its flaws.

    * what if someone broke into the facility? now they have all these guns!
    * where would it be?
    * what happens if someone damages my gun?!
    * why bother owning my twenty seven awesome guns if i don't get to look at them while naked in my bed fondling myself?

Just noticed that Canada doesn't require registration of long guns (rifles).

If parents aren't stepping up to practice gun safety then it is on the manufacturers to boost that. If they don't, it's on the government to enforce it. If they can't, guns, probably shouldn't be in civilian hands.

The hunting lodge in any given hunting area could have a rule that says "weapons must be checked in during the off season".

The "Britain first" thing and one or two other elements that are being reported widely are apparently up for debate between different witness accounts, but it's hard not to wonder when it's an MP being attacked right outside their surgery a week before a vote.

I read an article in the independent earlier about how Britain First would be targeting Saddiq Khan. They are a group we should be seriously concerned about.

There's no justification for what took place today. It's just so bizarre.

it's not? these were all the ones I saw with 10+ dead

I believe a mass shooting involves more than one person shot, not necessarily dead.
