Also, the dark nature of Isaac is part of its charm in my opinion, like the duality between the imagination of Isaac and his interpretation of the world around him.

 

Isaac is a whole lot of fun but i generally stick to games with traditional endgames/conclusions. i like knowing i “beat” a game

I agree, ny comment was really only about very personal preference.

 

I can't believe I'm having such trouble remembering good horror games I've played...I feel like that's such an overlooked genre.

Agreed 1000%. I'm not even good with scary things. For the most part I hate it, but that's because everything seems to be cheap jump scares or goreporn. I love more psychological horrors and games have this wonderful ability to place you directly in the creepiest and most immersive environments. I'd like to see that be utilized more.

 

i think silent hill did creepy psychological horror best... shame that PT demo didn't go anywhere, that had so so so much potential

 

I just remembered Fatal Frame! Oh man fatal frame was good too.

Nightmare Creatures for the N64 scared me good

 

Fatal Frame scared the shit out of me and I couldn't play it. wasting that blockbuster trip as a kid was devastating

Ubisoft should have gotten the SW license lol.

 

Resi 7 is probably the best horror game of the generation. The Park, Observer, Kholat, Layers of Fear, Soma were a few other PS4 horror games I enjoyed off the top of my head, though they're each smaller games with their own sets of problems. Oh and obviously Outlast and Outlast 2 kick ass.

Recently played the excellent JJ Macfield which was creepy as fuck too.

 

Obviously the premise is dark. But realistically the game could give a fuck about telling the story. That's not a knock either. The aesthetic is very dark and disturbing though, took me a little while to get used to for sure.

 

Binding of Isaac is prob the game I’ve logged the most hours on

 

This thread made me go buy the Afterbirth + DLC I was being lazy on forever.

 

It's getting very close to that for me. FF XIV prob has the most hours from me.

 

I've put at least 1000 hours into Isaac. That might be second to a Pokemon game from when I was in Afghanistan tho.
