    Someday I’ll find me Prestigious

They got a little weird on Only Us and Blood on Blood.

The added harmonies brought in for Just Breathe were a nice touch, but common. and only "weird" for Thrice.

Good album is still good though.

Still weirdest they have been in 10 years, since TAI. Point still stands. Album is great, I don't understand all the complaining.

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

Point doesn't stand, previous albums did more weird things, there are some very interesting things done on Beggars, and hell even TBEITBN compared to this.

Album was a disappointment to me outside of 3 songs. I've gone over my complaints with the album. Sorry you can't read?

Seeing this thread get bumped twice right after I post by the only person I've blocked, makes me know I did the right thing :-) Took me a bit to figure out what was going on.

How do you feel about A Branch In The River? I think it's a pretty unique song for them myself.

I really enjoy it. It reminds me of a Death From Above 1979 song.

I heard Just Breathe for the first time in a while the other day and damn, what a song! Album is still great.

"Just Breathe", "Blood on Blood", and "Beyond the Pines" are all time Thrice songs and they're on one album. I know some people are disappointed and that's fine, but not every album has to be experimental, the only band that I can think of that branched out experimentally this year from what I listen to is Foxing, and it's a great album, but the rest that have come out and are the status quo are great too. Be it Pianos, mewithoutyou, All Get Out and a bunch of others I heard this year.

I dunno why people think they won't experiment again, that's just a weird assumption to me. Why wouldn't they? Because they found success in what they're doing now? Didn't that already happen with the Artist in the Ambulance and then they gave us Vheissu? I mean come on.

I think the reasoning is that at the time they played music just for fun so weren't afraid to risk alienating their fanbase by experimenting, but now that they have families they need the revenue from this more and will be less likely to make a risky move now that they found success with this "formula".

I am so happy for their success, but I don't really see the band writing stuff they don't want to write.

Yeah, it does seem like they've found a sound they like...the progression from Beggars to Palms feels like there aren't too many surprises in there. Whereas when Vheissu came out it was like "WOW!" I really enjoy Palms, but I do miss the experimentation of Vheissu and TAI days.

yea, Beggars had the best ballads.. but like.. that sound to this one isnt all that different...

Vheissu to beggars is the golden period.. but i still enjoy major minor on some days.. TBEITBN was great as a comeback record, lots of good moments. Palms has great moments even if it disappoints overall. still a top 10 2018 record for me.. theres some bias there for sure tho

Yeah, totally agree with all of this. I like everything they've done, I just haven't been surprised in a while...

Opening a record with (those) synths, a song with female guest vocals, a sexy soul/r&b-influenced jam, a song with harp.

Palms definitely had some things I didn't expect.

Don't forget that insane bass line opening up A Branch in the River.

Also that song Hold Up a Light, I think it was definitely unexpected for them to write a song that would get so many fans worked up.

Yeah, little moments for sure. But the overall sound is still very much within the wheelhouse of their last 2 records. Whereas I will never forget the first time I heard Vheissu.

I see that viewpoint. A lot of what made Vheissu so different and wild though, was that they were a heavy band mixing in all different styles into that. Thrice doesn't write heavy music anymore.

A song like The Earth Will Shake is so crazy good because it goes from bluesy chain gang style to them screaming. I'd say a lot of Vheissu's best moments like that, For Miles, Like Moth to Flame, Stand and Feel Your Worth are due to them going really heavy randomly in a song with a different style.

With them not screaming or being really all that heavy anymore, can they still write stuff that will be as "weird" as Vheissu? I think this is as close as well get. I hope that made sense lol

Easily album of the year!!!! It was between this and the 1975 for me in the end. I had to go with Thrice because i feel it was a much more emotionally powerful album.

both great albums though! 1975 just doesnt come close to the emotional level that Palms did, but its still my number 2!
