Meaning that a party can ensure minority rule and there only avenue for redress would be through the same legislative means that they don’t have accessto as a result of gerrymandering.

So, due to procedural posture, this is a direct appeal rather than a writ. By taking the case, they are saying that the lower court got it wrong.
