I don't think this is true at all. Usually, it's the coordinators are fired and replaced before they ultimately can the head coach. Look at the Falcons firing all of their coordinators and keeping Dan Quinn. This happens a ton and we had so many coordinators let go before the head coaches finally got the axe this year.

My bad I thought I wote this but I meant to say: "OC for a good team" (such as McDaniels). In these spots usually your job is safe and teams will start coming for you. If you're the coordinator for a bad team ... yeah you're typically the first to go.

If I were in that spot as a coordinator for a good team and teams wanted to interview me, I'd probably stand pact UNLESS it is for a good opportunity such as Browns or Jets. I ain't jumping for a HC job in a bad opportunity for success. Like I know a HC job is going to pay you well and is typically the goal for these coordinators, but I am not taking that Arizona job with the likely hood of failure for the first few years and risk getting fired when I could stay as a coordinator, improve myself further, and then wait for a good spot.

Jim Bob Cooter is a good example of a supposed rising star OC whose stock plummeted by the end of the year and now he’s fired instead of being a HC candidate

Being considered for one of those jobs is typically very closely tied to team performance, so unless you’re in a cushy position with the GOAT QB where you can literally accept and then back out of a HC opening and still be a top contender for a job the next year, I think it makes a lot of sense to take the job if it’s there and you think you’re not in a position to fail, rather than waiting for the perfect job

I shouldn't be surprised that NFL owners are willing to give Hue and McDaniels a shot at being a HC again, but here we are

 

Can't argue with that example, lol. I feel like if you're with the Chiefs, Rams, NE, etc. it is hard to think you'll suddenly suck, but it does happen and if so the coordinator is out. I guess focusing on McDaniels is different than everyone else...since, as we all know you can just say fuck it and back out and still next year be a top candidate even though you drafted Tebow and track record stinks.
