this was bonkers, insane, beautiful, cheesy, or as Brave and the Bold Aquaman might say, "OUTRAGEOUS!" haha. I thoroughly enjoyed this. it by no means is perfect, but I had fun, and they clearly went for this bold over the top tone. I respect the choice and think they nailed that.

least favorite parts were the pop song queues, but they don't hang around so it's whatever. although as I type this, I take the fountain scene in Italy out of that criticism because I thought that was delightful in a "raindrops keep falling on my head" Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid kind of way.

The submarine is a good set up for Black Manta. As much as I liked it, I'd probably have scrapped the rest of the Black Manta stuff and had the mid-credits scene being Kane getting and modifying his costume.

Saw this last night. Kinda loved it. Momoa was bro-ish at times as to be expected from JL, but other than that I really don't have complaints. The cinematography was top-notch, and I also loved Wan's horror influence in a couple scenes. I'd rank it second to Wonder Woman for the DCU.

The first half was super slow, but once they got to Italy, it got better. I like the idea of Aquaman being a dumb meathead.

Also, "CALL ME THE OCEAN MASTER" got a good laugh out of me.

The first shot I instantly thought -- Yeah, this is a James Wan movie.

Liked a lot, quite a bit I didn’t like either though. Those needle drops are so bad. Not sure why they did that when I actually really liked the score, totally unnecessary. Also, I think it was FIVE times a conversation was interrupted by an explosion. Way too long too.

Oh man, can’t forget to mention how hilarious teenage Arthur’s acting was. This had some gorgeous shots and images, though.

Thought this was a lot of fun. Some unreal visual effects and some of the still shots were incredible. Thought it dragged a bit in the beginning, but other than that I thought it was solid.

EDIT: I also thought Black Manta might get a more proper send off than he got.

You didn't stay for the mid-credits scene?

I was really into it from the beginning on actually, felt some of the middle dragged. I’ll need a rewatch.

    Was I t really that bad? I guess I didn’t notice.

I wasn’t crazy about Wilson’s acting/casting. Very stiff and unmotivated.

Man, Wilson was probably one of my favorite parts.

the showing I'm at right now also has a kids birthday party in it. This is what I get for going so early

I just never took him seriously as a villain.

Super fun movie. Black Manta was so cool in that Italy fight scene. Mera was bad ass. Jason Momoa and Amber Heard have great chemistry. The shot of them swimming down surrounded by trench creatures looked so cool.

Great action, mostly great visuals, Momoa was dope. They did a good job incorporating Manta. Action sequences were super well done. Whoever decided to end every conversation with an explosion is just god awful though.

This was honestly kind of baffling. Like, there were parts that were genuinely well done (the Black Manta fight in Italy was great except for the awful toilet joke, most of Momoa's delivery was pretty good and his chemistry with Amber Heard was fine), but then there were parts that were just awful (the whole sequence where Aquaman finds his mom and gets the trident was so poorly executed, most of the flashbacks were bad, the villains were about as good as the villains in every other modern DC movie and most of the older MCU movies).

"You NEED to see their reactions" is a weird thing to title an article with no reactions in it

This was way too long, but visuals were nice and I liked that Sicily fight w/ Manta (and I’m glad he will return in some form, despite that bizarre montage w/ him configuring his suit; that felt straight out of a bad 80’s movie).

Could have used some better editing for sure, but all in all, it was fine. A few repetitive tropes, but hey, it’s got a crab army, giant seahorses and Dolph Lundgren as an ocean king! Music was all over the place though — I can’t believe how bad that Pitbull song is.

I still haven’t seen Justice League but this is surely the 2nd best DCEU movie for me after WW.

$67 million OW. I guess that’s okay for an Aquaman film. Ninth biggest opening in December.

This was hilarious and fun. like the pro wrestling of movies; insane, over the top, corny as hell, but winking and so fully committed to entertaining you that you have to buy into it.

Also idk how it hasnt come up in the thread but JULIE ANDREWS VOICES A LITERAL PACIFIC RIM KAIJU THAT AQUAMAN RIDES INTO AN UNDERSEA LORD OF THE RINGS STYLE CRAB SHARK LAZER WAR and by the time that happens, its pretty much par for the course
