I worked at Apple retail for my last year of college. It's a right of passage.

I applied to Apple like 4 different times from the time I was 18-20 and they would never even give me a call back :(

But to be fair I wouldn't have hired me then either

 

It's fuckin beautiful there. The "scenic route" of highway 40 takes you on cliffs that overlook the Potomac river and the northern edge of Virginia. I used to drive through Hancock on my way to visit Pittsburgh, if I left early enough to take the "long way".

 

it's high on my list of places to go purely for the novelty of being able to be in three states within like ten minutes.

 

nevermind that's not Virginia, that's West Virginia's panhandle that borders Hancock

Also, driving up WV highway 29 from Winchester, Virginia -- through Paw Paw, WV -- and across Maryland's Green Ridge State Forest... That's one of the most beautiful drives through the Appalachian Mountains I've ever taken.

 

I actually don’t work in graphic design at all though. Just self-taught myself on most of that. haha

 

I did that one when I visited Pittsburgh from that mountain house I lived in near Sperryville, VA.

My band's bassist at the time, he was from Annapolis MD but went to college near Pittsburgh, so we'd have visits and spend that time recording demos. That's how a lot of Terrain's older songs came into fruition.

 

I also once got in an accident in a blizzard near Accident, MD

 

It'd be funny/horrible if AAA showed up and was like we can take your car to a repair shop but the nearest repair place is in Seizure, MD

Haha, I'd have laughed but the situation was way too shitty to find humor in at the time. I got out of my car and it's fucking 9 degrees outside and the wind and snow is just whipping around like crazy. I started getting cold as fuck in my car waiting for the police cruiser to arrive.

That was my first time driving in snow, and they said the storm wasn't gonna hit until 7 PM. I left at 2 PM and got slammed in it at 3 PM. I'm driving a Nissan Maxima at the time, a front heavy car with too much power for its' suspension, so we know how this ends. I'm also driving through desolate southern PA and don't really want to stop, trying to get on the highway where the roads are salted before the storm got even worse & darker.

Fuckin sign for I-68 isn't visible till you're coming down the hill that the on-ramp is on.

I drove just fine for 2 hours and then that on-ramp surprised me, and instead of turning onto it, my car slid sideways into a snowbank and broke its whole tie rod, bushing, and wheel assembly. Had I made it safely onto the on-ramp, like i said they use salt to break up snow on the highways and I probably would've gotten home.

I'm getting towed and the Appalachian hillbillies working the truck took one look at it and said "oh yeah that thang's SCREUUWED" and I had to get a motel in fucking Grantsville Maryland, middle of fuckin nowhere.

Be careful driving through mountains, fellas. Snowstorms at high elevation are super unpredictable. Most of Maryland maybe gets a blizzard once every 10 years, but apparently it happens often in the panhandle where there's mountains.

 

so yeah, that story is even worse than the "got towed in Nashville with no money and almost ended up on the streets" story

 

And then the next morning I only had enough money to get to Cumberland MD by taxi, so I had my friend Joey leave work and drive 3 hours from Annapolis to Cumberland and pick me up, while I played guitar on the street so I could give him some gas money.

then my dad and I had to come ALL THE WAY back to Grantsville to get my car once fixed haha.

 

Damn Grantsville is so far away from civilization

You're from Pittsburgh! You know all about them PA mountain snow storms. My band's bassist, who lived near me in Maryland, went to college at California University of PA, so we trekked back and forth quite a few times. That was the last time I visited him in winter though lol.

 

That bassist WAS actually a huge Steelers fan, even though he grew up in MD, that's how I started liking and watching the Steelers actually haha

to be fair, the town in PA that the university is located is actually named California

 

i assumed that much haha

 

Outside of Pittsburgh there is California University of PA (in California, PA), and Indiana University of PA (in Indiana, PA).... Neither are particularly impressed when compared to their national counterparts.
