I've said this on reddit and on here multiple times but this album is fantastic but it's an album you really have to pick apart. The first time I heard 5 Light Years I was a bit baffled by it, same with every other song on this album. But when you really break it down and soak it in it really is a great album. It may not be what anyone expected but not only have the members of mae changed but so has pop and emo music in general in the 10 plus years since singularity and I think they've done a damn good job of keeping up with the times

So I got my copy of the record today and interestingly enough the track listing on there is different than the track listing on spotify. It starts with Sing and ends with Kaleidoscope. I haven't listened to it yet and I'm not sure if they just didn't get to switch out the track listing or if that's actually the vinyl track list

They are so good about making music that grows on its listener. At first, I was putting this in the same league as singularity. Now, I am really seeing it as one of their finest albums to date. I appreciate it even more with the experiential sequence.

  5. Could someone hook me up with the experiential version of the record please? It was one or the other due to shipping costs and I ordered the double LP set.

I’m interested to hear this if the opportunity did arise.

You know, you’re right about their music growing a lot. I forget that. The Everglow is one of my favorite albums of all-time, but the first time I listened it sounded like a standard alternative rock album and I didn’t get the hype. It took about a year for all the nuances to really hit me in that record, then I was like, “What on earth how did I miss this??”

Yeah except for the slightly out of place intro that song is good

Watch the band’s video on this song. It’s on their Facebook and YouTube channels. Explains the song.

The intro is the good part, IMO. Chorus sounds like Dave's falling asleep while singing it

I almost find the entire track to be lifeless compared to the others.

    Are we about to kiss?

I actually like his delivery on the chorus. I get a John Lennon sort of cadence more than sleepy.

Definitely more of a John Lennon-y delivery than sleepy. It kinda reminds me of fountains of wayne too. I love the outro as well

No Promises hardly made any impression on me at first but that was dumb because it’s great. Chorus sounded lifeless to me at first but so much is going on beneath the surface that I didn’t catch on first listen.

Also, I love how Mew-esque the end of the song is as well as the end of “Simple Words”. A lot of this album reminds me of Mew actually, it’s just less immediate.

The delivery during the verses of simple words reminds me of Owl City.

Just got my vinyl copy this week, looking forward to listening this weekend.

I'm still really liking this album, it needs time to grow on you but it's worth it. Kaleidoscope is quickly becoming one of my favorite tracks, especially the part where the guitars and drums kick in at "Can you imagine or remember..."

I totally hear the Mew comparison and honestly that's what I've liked about the album since the beginning.
Yeah, Kaleidoscope has grown on me a lot too. Probably my favorite after Simple Words and Let it Die. The whole album has grown on me a bit, just as I hoped. Just needed to accept that it's weird and doesn't always flow and appreciate what's cool about it.

So I finally got round to listening to this. Loved the beginning to Kaleidoscope and thought it was a good track overall but nothing else really gripped me. The atmosphere was nice but nothing stuck out.
