I'm kind of picking and choosing what to read here trying to catch up on the thread, but this is most certainly not a weak draft class.

QB is not a strong group, but this could be the best defensive class of the 2000s.

 

Fan of two bad basketball teams - tanking does not work

 

Yeah and i don’t think the packers would purposefully lose either, I’m sure a veteran player like Rodgers would take that negatively as it would be wasting his prime. (Which they really are though)

To be fair, the "Rodgers cares about if his prime is wasted" ship sailed YEARS ago

 

I hate tanking. I also hate basketball. Basketball should operate like hockey and baseball and until it does it will always be the worst league.

 

Basketball is great but the cap restrictions are a major issue for teams. Signing a player to a “super max” contract and them being injury prone, not panning out, etc can cripple teams (especially small market) because that’s essentially a quarter or so of the payroll. Now you are stuck with a shit contract and can’t make moves to alter/improve the team because of it. “Tanking” is also stupid because of the lottery the draft has in place, and generally there are no sure fire immediate impacts.

 

Also college basketball sux and there's no true farm system

 

Well you missed the fact that carpetelf was talking about how you should tank most of the time and I was saying the difference between when a draft class is good or not probably matters in that situation but I still don't agree with tanking in general. It had nothing to do with any particular draft class.

i'm saying if you're an actually good team on a down year, it's more valuable to lose three games at the end of the season than to win those games. The Falcons are my example. They shouldn't be playing Ryan and Julio right now.

yeah but you're ignoring the context of that. i'm not saying the Bengals should be tanking. I'm saying teams that are legitimate playoff contenders who are having a bad year this year benefit more from a higher draft pick because it's unlikely they'll be in that situation again.
