Well the Panthers and Eagles are a little bit different than the Jags. They have franchise QBs capable of carrying them to the playoffs any given year (don't tell GraveDigger). Same with the Falcons. I wouldn't be trying to win another game if I was Atlanta. But also I am just talking in a vacuum. The Jags and Browns by all means should have broken out sooner. They just make bad picks. It's not a coincidence that the second the Browns make good picks they become a competitive team. Just don't be dumb haha.

    The rivalry is back on

Yeah, I think the tank jobs where you tear it all down work the worst in the NFL because of this variability.

But also in a single season, this gives teams a ton of incentive to perform as poorly as possible in a given year if they’re done because it really doesn’t matter. I think the Colts/Jets trade last year illustrates that well. Both teams got their guy, but the Colts were literally given 3 extra second round picks just because they sucked more.

Edit: the Jets sucked at the end of that season too, but the concept of being really bad benefiting you in future seasons in a tangible way still holds

To be fair, I'm not saying tank to tear it down. I'm only endorsing tanking for great teams having a down year. Like Atlanta. Almost every one of their best players has missed at least most of the year. You don't need to be trying to finish with a pick in the teens. Like Blimp said, they could've had second overall. Lose now. Trade down a few spots. Get some picks and an elite talent. Then come out dangerous af next year.

You NEVER know if your pick is going to be successful.

I mean, sure there are no guarantees for success, but there were definitely a few Browns picks there that we did know for a fact would be unsuccessful...

I haven't been paying attention to the Eagles this year but I had assumed according to this thread they were like 4 games below .500 entering into last night lmao

when the team is out of playoff contention there is absolutely no point in winning games

now, teams are never going to come out and admit it. and they sometimes will disguise it as "seeing what the young guys have" or whatever, but when my team is eliminated I don't want them to win any more games. Its pointless. Momentum doesn't carry over from season to season, especially with how much the rosters turnover nowadays.

If the Patriots were 100% eliminated, I would 100% Support Danny Etling starting Week 16 and 17.

    Here's my take on tanking-

Great players can be found in the draft in pretty much any given spot. It makes the least amount of sense to tank in the NFL because it's the most team sport, obviously QB is the most important position but you still need to field a competent team around them.

The NBA is on the exact opposite spectrum

Yeah, Matt is saying the Eagles/Panthers should lose out, which doesn't make sense at all in this situation
