This season has been noticeably worse than last. Last episode I cringed a few times, and Colin’s WU lines were some of his worst ever, he had to laugh at his own punchlines to indicate when the joke was over.

 

Yeah this has been the weakest season in years. The best episode so far still wasn't that great

’SNL’ Still Hasn’t Recovered From The Loss of The Lonely Island

 

I sort of get what Steve Hyden’s getting at, I disgree with part of it. It’s political songs aren’t good. They’re annoyingly pandering.

But they still have silly songs that rival Lonely Island like “Fresh Prince,” “Drake’s Beef,” “Back Home Ballers” and “Do It On My Twin Bed.”

Obviously, Lonely Island changed how SNL is done with more pre-taped sketches and songs. But I don’t think they’ve been living in their shadow for six years.

 

I honestly wish SNL would focus more on the "live" part of the show.

 

I get that complaint because it does tend to segue from live skit to taped skit more often, but I think they’re just rolling with the times and the focus on video.

Even in the 90s there were a ton of commercial parodies and Saturday TV Funhouse. To say SNL hasn’t been good or recovered from Andy Samberg leaving negates people like Beck Bennett, Kate McKinnon, Kyle Mooney and Keenan’s best stuff.

 

I understand and agree! I'm mostly just thinking that a good third of the cast can barely make it through a live sketch without laughing or missing a cue and I'm more inclined to blame the rehearsal schedule than them.

As Taran Killam elaborated on recently, the more pre-tapes, the less rehearsal time for the live show.

Man, I hope he’s able to just take some time off and focus on himself. Going from a high-profile relationship back to SNL and getting involved with the whole war vet controversy and also dealing with the crunch that is the SNL writing crunch would do a number on anyone.

Also, fuck Nicki Minaj bringing up Mac Miller. What the fuck is wrong with her?

I can't decide if I want Pete to show up tonight. On one hand it could be good for him, but it also might be too stressful. I don't know him obviously so I hope they let him do what he feels is right

 

Yeah this is the first time I went into an episode legitimately concerned for a cast member's well being

 

I love Matt Damon

 

I always thought Matt Damon seemed like such a great guy, really nice monologue
