  2. I do really like the soundtrack's cover. It is quite cool. Gonna give this a spin, definitely not adding the XXX song to my library though.

I think the way they incorporated these songs into the actual movie make it so much better. I’m getting flashbacks to those exact moments.

In 2000, Marvel launched the Ultimate universe, an alternate reality reboot of their universe intended to bring in new readers w/out abandoning their main continuity. This line had its ups and downs, but its biggest home run was its flagship title, Ultimate Spider-Man by Brian Michael Bendis & Mark Bagley. For just over a decade, Bendis wrote an uninterrupted, character-driven retelling of Peter Parker, the iconic teenage superhero. Then, after around 150 issues, he wrote a story that couldn't be done in mainstream continuity: the death of Spider-Man.

Around this time, the Internet pushed for Donald Glover to star in The Amazing Spider-Man. Inspired by this, Bendis & artist Sara Pichelli created a new Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Collected in these 3 volumes is his entire run as Spider-Man in the Ultimate universe. (In 2015, Marvel destroyed that universe & brought Miles into mainline continuity.) This is legitimately one of the best "Spider-Man" runs of any kind. - @Tim

    Spder-Gwen: Most Wanted
    Writer: Jason Latour
    Artist: Robbi Rodriguez

As soon as I started reading Spider-Gwen, I knew there was something special about the character. Earth-65 might not be a "fun" place for Gwen, but it is a fun one to dive into as a reader. Jason Latour and Robbi Rodriguez did an excellent job creating this whole new world where some familiar faces pop up in new ways. If you haven't read this series yet, you're really missing out on a great treat. I'd recommend this to every comic book reader. - @Deanna

This prelude to the Spider-Verse comic book event spotlights 5 different alternate Spider-characters. Includes the first appearances of Peni Parker (written by Gerard Way) & surprise hit Spider-Gwen, as well as the return of fan favorite Spider-Man Noir. - @Tim

    .
In the miniseries Spider-Men (collected above in Miles' Ultimate Collection Vol 1), the main continuity Peter crossed over to the Ultimate universe and met Miles. After getting home, Peter looked up "Miles Morales" to see if his universe already had a version of him. Then, before this tease could be followed up on... Miles was brought into that world. Thankfully, this story of an alternate Miles still got to be told, in what ended up being Bendis' final tribute to Ultimate Marvel. - @Tim

I like basing the recs off collections, & that's collected in Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man Vol 1. People who use Marvel Unlimited can look up the contents of these trades themselves, lol. (Or just ask.)

Just thinking about Miles and Spider-Man’s first interaction. Chris Pine’s voice is so full of warmth and care for this kid. It was such a nice moment that I think so many of these movies miss.

I haven’t watched the film yet, but I decided to check out the soundtrack.

Sunflower, Way Up, Invincible, Hide, and Memories are pretty good.

Are most of the songs from the soundtrack in the film?

Sunflower and Whats Up Danger were in it. There’s also a couple classic hip hop tracks in there.

I think I would’ve liked this even more if it was just Miles, Peter and Gwen. Still great, though, can’t stop thinking about the colors.

I'm not sure there's a movie that exemplifies why I love Spider-Man and what Spider-Man and superheroes mean to people better than this one. It's a story about doing the best you can, always "getting back up", no matter what else is going on... the idea that whatever version of yourself you may be, you are still you, and you can always get back up. The scene between Miles and his dad at his dorm, when he's webbed up, is amazing. Jake Johnson was perfect casting for a jaded, sarcastic Peter Parker. There was so much going on in the animation I actually wish I'd sat farther away from the screen (it was a pretty full theater, I didn't get my first choice of seating area). But all the small details were amazing, I especially liked From Dusk 'til Shaun, the Clone High sign at I think Times Square, and the Community scene of Donald Glover on Prowler's TV. But man. I adore this movie. I couldn't stop smiling throughout basically the whole thing, except during the Stan Lee cameo. This movie was actually so vibrant and enrapturing that I forgot to expect an obligatory Stan Lee cameo, so when it came, especially on the heels of Peter Parker's death, it hit me so goddamn hard and I just started crying. I don't know what they knew about his health at the time, but for this scene to play out in the recent aftermath of his passing... it's pretty perfect. And for me to be feeling all those heavy emotions, and for the scene to be so emotionally important, then to immediately cut to the "NO RETURNS/REFUNDS" gag just made me laugh so hard. I'm gushing over this movie. John Mulaney? John Mulaney should have always been in Lord/Miller movies, as he should be in everything. I don't want to overcredit Phil Lord and Chris Miller, since this movie was worked on differently than the films they direct, but it follows so many of their screenwriting conventions that it's clear how much influence and input they had (obviously Lord was co-credited on the script). Full credit to Bob Perischetti, Rodney Rothman, and Peter Ramsay as well.

I just wish that Tobey Maguire could have gotten to reprise his role as the Peter who died. I thought I remembered some headline that they wanted him in the movie but decided against it, I didn't read the article so I don't know how much stock to put in it, but it would have been pretty great, especially with all the references and homages to the Raimi movies.

While I'm so, so, so glad this movie exists, I do just wish the MCU would have brought Maguire back as Peter and killed him in a Miles Morales movie. Oh well.

I really loved this movie. Like... On the initial high, it's my favorite of the year. As someone who is so worn out on superhero movies and even most blockbusters, that feels really good. Especially that it's a Spider-Man movie that did it.
