I don't necessarily think they're done, I would imagine they might still be pursuing additional bullpen depth, but i agree i am not thrilled if this is their last BP move of the off-season.

 

Soooo, the Indians let Santana walk last winter, just to give up Yandy and Edwin a year later to get him back?

Man, La Russo sounded like an old idiot in his interview on MLB Network.

 

For the mariners, right? They get encarmacion and the 77th pick in June's draft. I think all the $ ended up going to Cleveland, who also gets Jake Bauer and Santana.

 

Well I guess mariners saving ~20m isn’t bad

 

The rays are gonna be so much better this year, too bad they have to stay in that shit stadium till 2027. I can't see how they don't end up somewhere else by then, maybe they'll be able to get out sooner when the ocean overtakes the stadium.

 

i still don’t know how to feel about that Joe Kelly deal.

You know this is all about salary. They never would've been able to afford Santana and Encarnacion last year, nor would they have much of a chance to move Encarnacion for value when teams were waiting for Machado/Harper this year.

Now, they get Santana back cheaper than his contract numbers. He's younger, can actually play at 1B, and sports stats (better OBP/less power) that are pretty close to Encarnacion's. The above numbers are great for 2019 because there's less pressure to move Kluber/Bauer. For 2020, taking on $14 million is just fine because, after buy outs, they clear $22 million with Kipnis/Yonder. (Yonder might be traded now though.)

Otherwise, it's fine to give up Yandy. He was promising, but he turns 28 next year and was still a bit of a question as an every day player. It also puts a little less pressure on them with the infield next season. They can look for a utility guy or keep Kipnis at 2B, pending how all of our OF options pan out. Plus, we have a more promising prospect in Nolan Jones projected to come up in 2020. Beyond that, we got Bauers, who's been a pretty highly regarded prospect and could grow much more in our franchise as a guy who can play LF/RF/1B.

Not a bad trade at all for the Tribe and I don't think they're done yet.
