All of these insanely bad (super) max contracts are going to cause a lockout soon, aren't they?

This bad year is worth it only if Morey keeps the roster as is by not trading future assets, and finally lands a high lottery pick.. trying to fight for an 8th seed would be a bad idea.

It’s a tough spot to be roster wise so it’ll be interesting how it’s navigated

I wouldn't be surprised. They have helped teams retain their stars, as they were conceived to do, but they're also going to severely handicap those teams' ability to build around those stars. I wonder if other teams will be hesitant to offer them in coming years?

They were implemented to help teams retain stars but even that isn’t working. Kawhi and Kyrie both demanded trades despite potentially being eligible for a Supermax. I can’t remeber if KD bolted OKC before implementation of Super Max, but bottom line is, if players want to leave, they’ll leave.

That's true - I was just thinking about the players who actually did sign them. My mistake.

It’s just a dumb rule that isn’t doing any good. It’s not keeping stars, and if it does, it completely handicaps the team.

Allowing a team with someone's Bird rights to give them that extra 5th year didn't turn out too well either. It'd be interesting to see them change the supermax so that those contracts don't count any more against the cap than if they'd signed the regular max with another team. Or if they genuinely cared about creating actual parity, they could eliminate set contract terms, and institute a hard cap.
