  1. all of the articles about this record mention "critical resistance" and for anyone who hasn't been paying attention until now that will be really confusing because ??? where is that now?

I had 3 friends contact me for ruining their facebook feed with 1975 articles and interviews. They read all the hype and were curious. Of course they listened and gave me track by tracks as to why they didn't get it or think they were that good. Meep.

    The Real Azor Ahai

This is the only band that could make my cry in bed with an intro track that was really released over five years ago

    'friends'

...but seriously, who really thinks it's necessary to go that in-depth into why you dislike something a friend is quite clearly passionate about? Say you don't like it and move on. Yikes.

It’s their champagne supernova except they’re actually saying something.

I really think that the entire narrative surrounding the album, and the message of the band dropping their overt pretentiousness has willed a lot of people to like them

Somehow this might be the most legitimately optimistic album I’ve ever heard.

How are they any less pretentious now than they were in 2016?

lol yeah I still don't follow them closely but didn't they drop a rambling manifesto about this jawn

Haha yeah, but there’s also a different level of honesty in the messaging that ABI is getting across, about being honest with yourself and dropping the “too cool for school” mentality which is a direct result of the peer pressure via our online relationships I.e. chorus.fm, which was stated in an interview. I’ll have to find it

Idk, I just feel like the themes of the new album are much more far reaching than in the past

  12. They’re pretentious and not pretentious at the same time - they walk that tight rope brilliantly

Much better now than during the ILIWYS cycle

Like Matty looked like he was crying at the end of Robbers during the Pryzm show because he was genuinely appreciative of that moment, and realized the minutiae of the experience in context of what they’ve been through over the last 2-3 years

Yeah his pretension is much more muted across this whole record, it serves the whole thing much better I’ve never actually felt like I could relate to him before this

So I'm hearing this has major 22AM vibes? Haven't listened yet.

I wouldn't say the whole album does but there are some big 22AM-eqsue moments.

  18. The 1975 (ABIIOR) into Give Yourself a Try is a hell of a way to kick things off.

Yeah the band just likes recreating things they love. They love BI, so they used the vocoder for some songs. They seem like the kind of nerds who will get the Messina for the tour too

Has Matty said this in interviews? I'd be interested in reading about that.

I believe Matty has been spotted at London BI shows, not sure about interviews

  22. £35 for a seated ticket to the opening night of the whole-ass tour in Belfast in January? Well it'd be rude not to right?
