12 months is an arbitrary window to judge music in

Yeah, but we all look at different aspects of life in terms of years. It’s an easy way to categorize things.

I think it does a disservice to the music we listen to try and box everything into one window of time

This album is so good and I just KNOW that two years from now I’m going to fall even more in love with it considering that’s exactly what happened with their last two

All those, plus Isbell, Dawes, Kacey, John Moreland, and maybe the best slate of country records from any one year this decade.

Back in the day, I really preferred thinking about music in terms of what came out/what I was listening to a lot during different school years, because then it was basically "Okay, what records defined this stage of my life?" But, obviously, I don't have that anymore. I like the album of the year conversation, even though it is ultimately largely superfluous. It's a fun way for people to talk about stuff they love. I would like to see more people talk more about why they love things, versus just listing out artists/album titles.

It's so hard to put together a EOTY list right now I'm trying to go back and listen to some stuff that came out earlier this year. I think my top favs and possibly my top 5 are: Death Cab, 21 Pilots, this album, mewithoutyou, and Architects or Post Malone.

I think I’m done preordering records. I download leaks but that doesn’t make me ANY less excited to play from a tangible medium the day it’s officially released

Age Of was one of my most anticipated albums of the year and I didn’t get my preorder until like a week after it came out

I think it’s funny how hard it would be for most of us here to do because of how much stuff we would have to cut when no one I know irl has even heard 50 albums

I've already listened to 84 just this year. The benefit of having a desk job where I don't have to answer the phone all day long.

  21. I've listened and loved so much this year, that albums I really like, such as The Interrupters, MxPx, Pennywise, Greyhaven, Sick of it All ... probably won't even make it into my top 25.

Yeah, 50 is probably just too few. I’ll at least do a top 100. Maybe 200!

  25. Fickle Friends, Allie X, LANY, and The Midnight all released really great and solid albums. That Pale Waves album was disjointed but good.

Matt Nathanson is incredible. The Living End had a bounce back record. Nathan Gray, Lykke Li, and The Sonder Bombs all dominated different parts of the year. And that's before even looking at This Wild Life, Tash Sultana, Troye, Thrice, The Wombats, Years & Years, Wet ... yeeesh.
