My league is absurd. First place is 11-1 and in.

But the rest:

2: 8-4
3rd through 6th place: 7-5
7th and 8th place: 6-6

This is the final regular season week before playoffs. Only 4 teams out and everyone else is in a must win situation. I’m a 7-5 team. If I win I’m in, and I could even bump up to second place and get a bye. If I lose.....

 

This fuckin guy in one of my leagues has only won one game and for the last few weeks he’s been snatching all the top waiver claims and keeping them on his bench so no one else can get them.

Fuck people like him.

 

How is he constantly in position to snatch the top waiver claims?

Because he’s in dead last and it seems like every single time I go to grab someone, he’s positioned better in the order and gets them. Happened a couple weeks ago with DJ Moore & Josh Reynolds and then it happened again this morning with Ekeler. All 3 players...on his bench. Dude doesn’t even set his lineup anymore.

 

Shouldn't matter what place you're in the standings for the waiver wire. Isn't your league set up where once you make a waiver claim, you automatically move back to the end of the line? If that's the case, and he's still getting top picks, that means others in your league are using their waiver picks on shitty players?

 

My rule of thumb: Never use a waiver claim unless it's a MUST pick-up. It kills me to see guys in my league waste their waiver claims on defenses or kickers or guys they know they aren't going to use (i.e. someone picked up Malcom Brown in our league a few weeks ago. I get it, he's a handcuff to Gurley - but...you don't need to waste a waiver claim on him). Why waste your spot in the line when you can likely get those guys after the waiver period?

 

My big $$ league the waivers reset every week and it bugs the shit out of me

 

I wasted a waiver claim today on Greg Zuerlein and Denver's defense and I don't regret it at all.

 

The second chorus league is like that too. Gaff on my part. Annoying as fuck.

 

So the best team always has the worst waiver spot and the worst team always has the best spot? That's bullshit.

 

It is frustrating. The only reason I didn't change it in our league is that I didn't want portions of the season played under different rules.

 

I would add that at this point in the season, with playoffs on the line and things like that, all bets are off. But had you done that in like, week 3 or week 6, I would side eye you, haha.

 

I called the guy out too, of course he didn’t respond. I told him I guess he’s gonna be that guy and play spoiler, which is bullshit. Last time I play in this league.

 

I have to preface what I'm about to say that I completely understand your view on it and get it, but I just wanted to throw out my opinion on the matter because it's actually a common question I see asked to the guys who do the podcast I listen to and I felt the same way you do about it until I heard them talk about it.

The way I see it is that when people are still picking up players who obviously have no chance of making the playoffs show the competitiveness of a league. For instance, in my league the guy who is in last place is still picking up players off the wire and trying to compete. Which I appreciate (even though he is playing against me and my chances of making the playoffs literally ride on whether or not I win this game) because I don't want to just have players that completely give up in my league because they are out of playoff contention. It makes leagues more fun and competitive in my opinion. Yeah it sucks for me who didn't get that player or because he might beat me, but to be honest if I can't beat him with my best team then I don't deserve the win.

Players who don't quit because they are out of playoff contention are just trying to still have fun with the little bit of the season they have left and I feel like we should respect that. I kind of compare it to the actual NFL. A team that is 3-8 isn't going to just stop playing because they are playing a team that could potentially get knocked out of playoff contention.

Ultimately, fantasy football is about having fun and it's fun to watch your players and start the best lineup you can even if you are 1 - 10. I would rather be in a league of 12 people that play their best lineup and try to pick up players even when they are out of contention than in a league with players who just give up and stop playing when they aren't in the playoffs. Maybe it's just my competitive nature, but it just makes things more fun in my opinion.

Again, this is just my opinion, but I really did used to feel that way until I heard it explained this way. Like, in my other league I still have a chance to make it, but the guy I'm playing against already gave up last week and had like players on I.R. in his starting lineup and it just doesn't seem right that I could potentially get a free win and sneak my way into the playoffs.

 

In my league, the weekly high point total wins like $50 every week

Gives an incentive to those teams who won't be in the playoffs

 

A guy who I work with is in a league like this, I think it's a great idea tbh

Yeah I was actually going to implement that this year and time just got away with me. It makes it where players really care throughout the whole season.

I've also thought about putting up a vote in my league to have everyone chip in an extra 5 bucks and the winner of the losers bracket would win that small pot of money just to give even more incentive to those who didn't make the playoffs a reason to stay invested.

 

Starting Gus Edwards over Jordan Howard isn't completely stupid right?

I feel like it's definitely not completely stupid given what Howard's put up lately.

 

Dude after awhile I realized my mission with Jordan Howard was to ABORT MISSION

If you didn't ship him off in time for the trade deadline I feel bad for you haha. Definitely start Gus Edwards.

 

My RB1 and RB2 are Saquon Barkley and James Conner so Howard's only a flex anyway haha

 

Ive benched Howard since the DET game. Absolutely start Howard over him, Edwards is guaranteed more volume and the Falcons get shredded by everyone. Gus could go 30+ in that game if he scores.
