Why was this being billed as a super dark album? And I remember “heavy metal” being thrown around. It’s catchy and I like it but it’s not at all what they said it was so far and it’s not really different from anythig in their last few albums.

Extremely lukewarm Weezer fan here, but this song rules.

 

I mean I like it a lot too it’s just being billed and promoted bizarrely but I guess that’s classic Rivers trolling lol

 

Gotta love that their “dark album” starts with a verse that sounds ripped straight from a Jason Mraz song. Fun single tho.

OMG this show is a MUST for me! Basement and TV on the Radio opening? Fuckkkk that is gonna be a great night.

I’m very much into these songs and this artwork.

March 1 is a long ways away though.

 

Will need more time with this new song. It was enjoyable. Think I like Can’t Knock The Hustle more on first listen.

 

Sounds like Dave Sitek produces the entire record. That bodes well for this release. Also TV on the Radio makes even more sense opening for Weezer.

They said something like “dark experimental pop” but ‘heavy metal’ or anything like that was definitely never thrown around by the band lol. The fans took “dark” as in “heavy”

 

Wasn't the original 'Black Album' suppose to heavy and dark? I can't remember what was said about it.

 

All I remember was him saying something about samples and cussing. Never a “heavy” album

 

"Zombie Bastards" had me instantly, where as I had to warm up to "Can't Knock the Hustle".

This is from February and all he ever said was that it was darker lyrically and musically, but still poppy. “Heavy” and all those “return to rock” comments were made by fans who took words out of context haha

 

I mean from over a decade ago...wasn't there a "black album" that was never released?

On my first listen when it starts off "Die die you zombie bastards" I immediately thought oh fuck this is gonna be trash, but by the end of the song I've had that hook embedded in my brain.

 

I thought that was just a fan-attributed name to those songs.. not something the band actually ever referred to as “the black album”

 

That would make sense!
