I have reached the annoyed at work level where I'm now drinking scotch at my desk constantly a la Mad Men

I'm just way less formal and way more tolerant

Today was a crappy day at work. Almost fired three people for incompetence. Ended up only letting go one and having two stern conversations. I need a scotch.

Damn dude that’s some grown man shit. I’ve only ever been someone’s boss at GameStop but with no firing capability

Yeah. I’ve been in supervisor roles for the last 5 years or so. My last agency was really conservative when it came to letter people go. Which had its pluses and minuses. At my new place, were a bit more liberal with it. Which also has its pluses and minuses. Firing people never gets easier.

I feel for you man. Thats the kind of stuff that made me choose the low road and just work odd jobs and pursue a music career.

But I still regret it. I'd also say over the years, I've learned the hard way why someone would put up with emotionally draining traffic / schedule / career.... because at this point having no stability in my life for this long is even more exhausting and depressing.

Especially the social isolation, the gap is widening and I'm literally not even on the same plane of reality / lifestyle as more and more people my age haha.

This is now the scotch thread.

I just started my collection and I only have two bottles so far, the Glenmorangie Original and the Balvenie Doublewood. Starting fruity and vanilla before I really dive in.

Most scotches aged 12 years or less have that fruity and vanilla aftertaste. You don’t start getting darker wood / nut / molasses flavors coming out until it’s been aged 15-18 years typically

I really like Glenmorangie 15 year scotch a lot.

18 years are typically too aggressive for me, acquired taste for sure

Try Oban if you haven’t had it. Really different. You almost get a bit of mild citrus.

I’ve drank so much cheap to average whiskey in college / shortly after that I can’t do it anymore. Nowadays it’s gotta be Bourbon if I’m trying to enjoy it.

Now, if it’s snowing and I’m going for a drunk walk, and I want to be giddy and warm. I’ll drink a small handle of Evan Williams or Kentucky Gentleman for all I care. But usually whiskey is not my drink of choice unless it’s like Basil Hayden or Knob Creek

Literally I only like whiskey when it’s freezing outside lol

Found some great japanese whiskey at a whiskey bar when I was in the Phillipines a couple years back. Got a bottle of Nikka Coffey Grain that became the bottle we passed around the night before my wedding.

I'm all in for this being a whiskey talk thread...though I'm setting the bar low drinking Evan Williams right now

yeah I’m all about whiskey in the fall/winter months, feelings wise definitely seems to keep the body temperature elevated. My usual go tos are knob creek or two gingers Irish whiskey. Whiskey/coke, Irish coffee, or any on the rocks are generally how I enjoy it.

I had to do it once, and it was an unpaid intern so it doesn't even count. But she was so bad we decided the free help was still a detriment. She cost us our biggest client.

Glenmorangie is so good. I've got a bottle of the 18 year at home for when I get to celebrate something.

  22. Gin is very good. If you can get your hands on it, Bluecoat Gin is my favorite. It's made by Philadelphia Distilling, but they may not widely distribute.
