More people believe this, and I mean really believe it, than we wanna admit. That propaganda has hit probably 30-40% of the electorate.

 

Numerous times on social media... “people in prison have it made: three square meals a day, free housing, free healthcare, living the dream”

 

I would drop to me knees and cry for an hour from happiness if I all the sudden made $75,000 a year. Nearly every issue I have would instantly vanish and the remaining ones would be much easier to handle with the extra money. Holy shit.

 

“Dems just wanna take your hard earned money and give it to someone lazy so they can have a better tv.”

I bet there’s a few people who will hear that at thanksgiving dinner this week.

 

If I live with my girlfriend and share an apartment/utilities, would the combination of our incomes be what gets us into the $75k-$150k range in this scenario? I do not make $75k, but I definitely feel like I'm doing better than a ton of people I know.

 

If that’s household income, that may be correct. I don’t remember off the top of my head what the “official” numbers are for that description.

I definitely am extremely grateful and lucky I seem to be doing better than a lot of others I know my age. But when my minimum loan payment is literally $100 less than our combined rent because I had no one to help me with school, it's very easy to go paycheck-to-paycheck when any small unexpected thing happens.

That's one thing a lot of these people just don't fucking understand, student debt is so crippling that it physically lowers many in the middle class. You can't just look at income alone.

 

I wonder if the type of people who say and believe these things have ever had to hold someone's gaze while its dawning on you that they have a whole lot of canned cat food for an elderly couple with no cats, and then tried to make the recommendations for services and help that's available while not hurting their dignity or sense of pride.
