Losing Justus for 2 years of Paxton idk. If you're willing to lose Justus you could've probably put something better together for Kluber.

Edit: or Paxton has 3 left too maybe. I don't even know who the other two prospects are so maybe it's good. I'm too big a Justus fan though lol

Like I get that Paxton is a known quantity (injuries aside) for a win-now team but the little I've seen of/read about Sheffield has led me to believe that he has a massively high upside

 

Of course not, Whitley and Sheffield aren't even in the same ballpark.

 

I’d be mad if they traded Whitley for anybody but a handful of players

 

am i missing something or does this seem pretty reasonable? like, if paxton's arm falls off and sheffield vaults up to a 2nd starter or ace, then yeah, it'll be bad and looked on badly

but as it is now, it seems fine

 

It's definitely reasonable, people just overvalue prospects a lot more than not. Having been in a dynasty league, I've been reading reports on prospects for years and I've never seen any analysts say Sheffield would be more than a no.3 so it's not like they gave up Pedro Martinez. I could certainly understand the like of having a cheap solid no.3 (if he improves his command and ends up that good) for 4yrs but you can also understand why you risk taking Paxtons upside on a relatively cheap deal as well. If they could've gotten kluber I'm sure they would've done that instead.

With Soto, Rendon, Turner, Robles, Stras and Doolittle? The team is in a pretty good position even with Harper leaving

And they just signed Kurt Suzuki, one of the better catchers in the league

 

I guess that makes sense. Though, he is like 35 and most of those guys are under 30 so I don't think it would be totally impossible for the right deal.
