Rita and bebe are like fine I guess but I def view them as c-list popstars who try to happen but never rly will, at least in US. They both have that
Generic Producer/DJ Featuring Generic zzz-List Popstar vibe. But then I also think that of Camila and she clearly has happened a bit soooo (she's still basic tho fight me)

Also Rita falls into that sketch group of white popstars who try to go for an ethnically ambiguous look and cash off WOC without having to be a WOC soooo byyyye

Rita is a mystery. Her career turnaround is a miracle, like just the fact that she managed to stay in the spotlight as a sort of a fashion mogul/celebrity/model while multiple albums were being recorded then scrapped, make me highlight her over the other singers mentioned.

Her debut had some promising songs (Facemelt goes off), and her last few singles have been excellent. She's also a solid performer.

 

Currently the pop trend that I can't stand is the cheap plink ponk sound marketed towards Spotify listeners that has become popular in the last few years. These singers all look and sound like the same.

 

I know she is but she's not black and has said "I may as well be black" like no sis u may as well not be!!

 

I don't know what that sound is but i hate the trend of female vocalists with these generic squeaky voices who enunciate weirdly that I cannot tell apart. And maybe it's cause I'm old man yelling at cloud but they're all interchangeable. None have the star power to rly be a big pop girl or have any sort of distinguishing factors but they get attached to catchy songs so they're all over radio and I can't deal.

 

The old fashioned way radio and most of the outlets that pop artists need to get their name out there function is really frustrating. I feel like major labels still have no idea how to adapt to younger people's listening and social media habits. It's such a bummer to see many artists having one or two hits, then their label choosing to absolutely not start the album campaign right there with a relatively short rollout. The artist loses money, the label does as well, and then the artist gets stuck in limbo. Rinse and repeat for another artist afterwards. They never learn.

 

I agree! Ironically I've forgotten most of the names, but while I do love Tove Styrke, her newest album was a good example of the sound I'm referencing. Ellie Goulding's new single as well.

I also tried requesting christina aguilera's Pipe but it's algorithm kept changing it to Type and would get an error message like OMG GET IT TOGETHER SPOTIFY

I'm finally getting to Rosalía's album and I love it

So I'm finally listening to Britney Spears' discography for the first time, Glory being the only album I had heard beforehand. The first three albums are mostly good, but I'm in the middle of In The Zone and HOW THE HELL IS THIS 15 YEARS OLD? It sounds so ahead of its time, there are so many atypical production choices that make it stand out. I'm blown away so far.

 

I just heard Britney's Blackout and Circus for the first time and yes, I'm a changed person. Even Blackout's bonus tracks are as good as the album cuts. What an album. Circus flows weirdly though, I wonder if the recording process was rushed. Out From Under is an oustanding song.

 

Blackout is SO good. My fave from her. Its still Britney pop but has this darkness to it imo, both from the production and then within the context of when it was recorded. Have you heard the about Original Doll that was supposed to follow up In the Zone? It was supposed to be her gaining more control of her music and she released the Mona Lisa demo to a radio station without Jives permission but then it all got shut down and is now part of her ~lore lol and it's kinda fun to read up about and see all the leaks and snippets fans have compiled

 

Lmao Meghan Trainor is playing this half time show and you can barely hear her and she just did a dance break and I'm deceased. My dad is so confused about who she is.

 

I'm reading about it! I'll have fun looking for all these leaks in the next few days
