a friend of mine got divorced a few months ago and over the last week or so he's decided that he's going to start interacting wth strangers / start up conversations with people and "get back out there".

today he texted me the following:

for the first time in maybe my life, i hit on a woman at a store. she was the cashier. after i was done buying my stuff i said, "thanks, i hope you have a great day too. and by the way, you're super cute" and she immediately responded with, ' thanks, my husband thinks so too'.

I have received closure after the second date with the makeup artist. she says she did not feel a spark. the feeling was mutual. that wasn't so bad.

 

we are driving to Michigan Wednesday to hang with her family for the holiday. 11 HOURS in the car, I’m thinking I’m gonna take sleeping pills the whole time.

My girlfriends dad was in the hospital last weekend and we drove down there at like 11:15 pm last Thursday and it rained the whole way down. It sucked.

 

Her family lives in Lapeer, like an hour or hour fifteen minutes north of Detroit. I’ve been there once a few months ago for a weekend and it wasn’t bad, very small town but enough things there to keep you occupied it seems.

Yeah I just get restless in car rides, last time we flew and it was only like an hour and a half flight. We are driving this weekend just because plane tickets hover around 300-400 each.

 

Yep. My girlfriend and I drove down because plane tickets were $450+ and I couldn’t afford two of them so I offered to drive because I wanted to be there for her.

Lapeer is a solid city. Been there a couple of times. It’s about 75 minutes from me. Enjoy!

so this is weird...

new guy at work starts a few months ago. he's gotta be JUST out of college and doesn't know how the world works. you can see his plush middle class life in his eyes (at least middle class, the car he drives... well, he did not pay for it himself that's for sure). we interact either on some projects or because the office is small we pass each other in the hall a few times a day, say hi / talk, whatever.

3 weeks ago i said something in an email, like, used some weird phrasing that i've never done before and he responds a few minutes later using the same phrase. that seems strange, but whatever.

2 weeks ago i'm in the bathroom, occupying the urinal and someone is in the stall. logic dictates that you open the door, see both spots taken, and you leave. well, i hear the door open and close, thinking this is what has happened. BUT, after i zip up and turn around, this fucker is STANDING THERE WAITING. now, our bathroom is maybe 4 feet wide so he's pretty much right behind me and was DEAD SILENT. that seems weird, but maybe it's just me being a normal person in this situation.

he's blown away that i don't know the artists he listens to. he messages me at least twice a day asking "have you heard of *insert artist here*" and i always answer and say no, because i haven't, and he's like, fascinated by this. seems like weird behavior to keep up day after day.

he constantly wants me to join him for lunch (group setting) which i always decline because i don't want coworkers thinking we're outside of work friends.

he's a nice guy, but close to a decade younger then me and acts in what i perceive to be a bizarre manner at times. he's only been here 3 months or so but i'm wondering if this gets weirder or if he settles down and maybe once he makes some friends in the office lessens his focus on me.

 

I'm not gonna lie marsupial, this is all pretty trivial behavior, just seems like a socially awkward dude. BUT, if I had to deal with it, it would annoy the FUCK outta me too. All the things you stated. So I feel you.
