LVE is great but Darius Leonard is the best rookie linebacker, sorry.

They're both awesome and both have arguments for being better than the other. Read that article!!! haha

To be fair no one saw this coming from Byron Jones or LVE, and it is straight up a miracle that Jaylon Smith is playing at all let alone playing well

I knew Jones would be better at corner than he was at safety, but he is better every week than I think anyone expected. And I figured Smith would be good but he's also been better as well.

    LVE is God, so...

Jaylon Smith, if healthy, was gonna be a monster. LVE immediately replacing Sean Lee and Byron Jones being a shutdown corner is something I did not see coming though. Though LVE would take a year

Dallas News guy doesn’t address that Leonard has 4 sacks and 3 forced fumbles on top of leading the league in tackles, compared to LVE’s 0 sacks and 0 forced fumbles.

Sure, he has the sacks but LVE is more of a coverage LB and not a blitzing type, because he's far better in coverage than Leonard. He has an interception.

Also, Leonard has played 147 more snaps than LVE, so him having more volume stats makes sense. Frankly, it being as close as it is while playing THAT many more snaps is astounding in LVE's favor.

Not to play devil’s advocate but turnovers / sacks are huge and any player who creates them obviously carries more weight

    Also, just saw this:

Solo Tackles/Snap Count (Average Tackle per Snap)

    1. Darius Leonard - 64/544 (0.12)
    2. Leighton Vander Esch - 63/399 (0.16)
    3. Antoine Bethea - 61/640 (0.10)
    4. Cory Littleton - 59/593 (0.10)
    5. Luke Kuechly - 57/555 (0.10)
    6. Kiko Alonso - 57/669 (0.09)

Yeah, turnovers are our main weak point on defense now and I wish we were causing much more of them, so Leonard has the advantage there, but I'd say LVE has the advantage everywhere else.

I agree. Sacks are huge for a player who's carrying more weight.

And it’s hard for them to turnover as well.

Well sure, but those efficiency metrics are biased the opposite way. Of course the player who is only playing half his team’s defensive snaps in some games (and is resting during the other snaps) will be more efficient than the guy playing every down.

Personally I’d take the volume stats over the efficiency stats when deciding who is having the better season in this case.

But yeah, at the end of the day, both are great

I guess I've just never understood the volume vs efficiency argument. Like, he barely edges him out in total tackles while only playing 3/4 of the amount of play time. If LVE's numbers extrapolated to that snap count were around Leonard's numbers, then I could see how it's a toss up (in my biased mind, obviously) but his numbers are, for the most part, already there while playing quite a bit less.

But whatevs, I agree that they're both great and neither of us are going to budge, which is to be expected! :P
