    Things have changed.

I don't even think the songs they wrote together on that album are all that good. Tom skews big and spacey, Mark more insular and simplistic, and they needed someone to help meld the two extremes together better – and tell them when the songs were just plain bad.

I've thought this too, but I do wonder why Feldmann is getting more credit than Finn, because I'd imagine Finn did the same thing in regards to your example. I don't know how it all works though as far as crediting these producers as songwriters. I don't really care either way, but the Feldmann haters have used this as ammo constantly when defending Finn and his involvement.

Rabbit Hole is really growing on me. I agree with those who have said this will be fun live.

This is what some dude on Facebook commented on Toms photo:
"Tom without u blink 182 is deaf n blind! Really i miss u dude! There's no taste in their music with matt.. U really need to come back"

If Tom does ever come back, that fuckface will try to take partial credit.

I also doubt Feldmann gives a shit about any of this. He's super rich, has every inch of his studio wallpapered with gold and platinum plaques and helped make a record Mark, Matt and Travis are stoked on. They'll come back to him again next time. He has no time for keyboard warriors.

Tombots have to be the densest, most irrational fanbase there is. I'm absolutely convinced of that.

The whole perception of authenticity within music is skewed and usually falls apart when you question exactly why a person cares so much. The debates are mostly seen in punk/alt rock and hip hop circles, both with the same superiority complex regarding the idea that one single person should be producing everything about a song, and if they have help or other ideas then the music is flawed. It's nonsense, you can see how closely it correlates to the "punk" vs. "not punk" argument

And all of that is not to mention the fact that often times "authenticity" or "realness" is used as a slight by primarily white listeners towards music created by people of color. How many times have you seen the meme of lyrics from like Zeppelin or Queen up against a Beyonce song that has repetitive lyrics? It's an ultimately meaningless criticism that is used to bolster ignorant opinions

Ernie Ball is producing it and it's called "the pursuit of tone" they've done it with other guitarists already too.

Imagine if there is an alternate universe where Jerry Finn produced Neighborhoods..

As much as i enjoyed that album and knew the production was shoddy, I never really realized just how bad until I listened to a few songs comparing Neighborhoods songs to these new ones..

We talk too much / We talk in circles

It is not an unknown. Amongst his peers, Jerry was known for adding a ton to his records, enough for a writing credit, only he wouldn't take credit. Producers typically don't as long as the band brings in the foundation of their record. The producer takes that record and helps it reach its utmost potential.

Producers can suggest changes to your songs without it qualifying as songwriting. They can even add parts to your songs without it qualifying as songwriting. They'll argue that they never would've written that part had the artist not brought in the foundation of the song first.

I also know mixers who will add guitar parts to a major band's song during the mixing process yet they don't take extra credit either.

But the fact remains: Blink brought in thirty-something ideas to Feldmann and instead of making the most of their ideas, Feldmann threw them out in favor of his own ideas that he co-wrote alongside Blink.

I've worked with a producer who "co-wrote" a multiplatinum album for a major artist only that artist did nothing but record vocal melodies that were written for that artist. Yet, the artist is still credited as a co-writer when that artist contributed nothing but lyrics.

So, for those of you who take the position that co-writing can mean as little as one note being changed in a verse, the reality is that a "co-writing" credit can also mean that a producer, such as Feldmann, wrote the bulk of any given song too.

The extent of co-writing varies from song to song and producer to producer. But, when you hire a John Feldmann, you know you're hiring someone who will help you write songs. That's his reputation (producer/songwriter). That's why he rarely agrees to a project where he isn't able to write/re-write songs with the artist.

I know it's hard to believe that someone on a message board might have insight or experience, but in this case, I can say that MY former manager also managed a band that Feldmann produced. So, I heard a lot about his process.

Does that process apply to Blink's new record? Maybe not entirely. But knowing what I know, I have a hard time believing that Feldmann did the bare minimum for a co-writing credit.

And I wouldn't care if he wrote all the songs from top to bottom... just as long as they're good.

Guys - what if Delonge is in the first stages of a serious mental issue? He is essentially a 40 year old multi-millionaire with a high school education + reading nothing but conspiracy novels surrounded by yes-men who regard him as a visionary genius. If he was going through some sort of breakdown, symptoms of mental illness - he may be too proud to share his struggle and continue to try and accomplish way too many things and venture into fields he has no business being in and the only reason he has broken through the barriers of entry is due to his celebrity status and wealth.

The downfall of Delonge could be even more depressing than what we've seen thus far - hoping I'm missing the target.

He spends a lot of time with his family, always keeps busy, says he is and seems happy.. Ive never done any of those things when my depression was bad or when going through episodes.. Tom is just a passionate guy, a little weird, and yes, odder than his younger days, but if anything, I think he's a workaholic.

  24. So, what do you guys think we should expect from the all Matt songs on the album?

  25. smoke4thecaper

I have zero idea what to expect from Matt tbh. He tends to write darker themed material, something of which I can't imagine he will be doing on this record. Maybe he's the lead vocalist on a song like "She's Out of Her Mind," where he can have some fun at the expense of an ex or something?
