Thats so sick. I realise maybe Gomorrah is their best but I fuck with Breed The Killers so much. Gomorrah is ace though.

Maybe controversial but I don't even mind Slither so much...

Like old Atreyu is still fun sometimes in the way They're Only Chasing Safety by Underoath is a fun listen occasionally, but its so tame when you realise even back then there were bands doing the melodic metalcore sound way better.

But yes The End Of Heartache is so fucking gnarly. There are bits that I still think are just devastating.

I really like it. Hell, I even like the first Freya with clean vocals.

I think Slither proved that good musicians can make good nu metal. It's like Machine Head's The Burning Red or Sepultura's Roots or Fear Factory's Obsolete; good bands can make good music even if the new genre choice is weird.

Dude FREYA! Man I haven't heard them in so long! Again I wish this was Reddit so I could gold you...

My first metalcore albums were The Poison and Ascendancy. 11 year old me was in love with those albums.

Dude mine too. I still like Ascendancy a bit though, and The Poison has a couple of rad songs. Both of them are way better than the old Atreyu to be honest.

Also, why bother with new Atreyu when 36 Crazyfists are still making music? They always did melodic metalcore better than a lot of bands and their last 2 albums have been solid.

That first 36 Crazyfists album is great. It’s really cool that Carl from Ferret/Good Fight/Nora found them and got them signed and even appeared on the album.

Yes it is. Again, a great nu metal album made by a bunch of great musicians. And yes good to see Carl doing his thing as always.

But I've been a big fan of them all through their career. Their latest album was like a masterclass for younger bands on how to balance heavy parts and melodies.

Yeah looking back Atreyu weren't even great at metalcore compared to the other bands at the time lol

They just happened to be on Victory when the label actually had some legit bands, although The Curse will always remain a staple for me.

Exactly. I will always defend their first 2 albums but only for being not AS bad as some people would say. But in the grand scheme of things they just do not hold up that great.

Shit, I even found myself listening to Demon Hunter's Summer Of Darkness the other day. I was shocked to find that dumb fundamentalist Christian metalcore band held up better than Atreyu...

Also on 36CF. I love that their third album not only had Howard from KSE, but motherfucking Jonah Jenkins from Only Living Witness. That song is the reason I love Only Living Witness now.

Also in bands that were better at melodic metalcore than Atreyu, how about some older Caliban?

  14. Samesies, and A Snow Capped Romance by 36 Crazyfists. I didn't even know metalcore existed at the time.

A Snow Capped Romance is awesome. "Kenai" goes fucking hard. And I even love "Bloodwork" for how cheesy it is. I was actually listening to that album the other day.

  16. I do remember stumbling onto Zao on myspace, and being scared by one of the singles they were promoting for The Fear is What Keeps Us Here. I wasn't used to rougher guitar tones.

  17. This was their peak, though I loved Rest Inside The Flames and especially The Tide And Its Takers. I haven't been able to get into the following releases for some reason. Brock has such an unique tone, so I'd rather hear him sing than scream at this point.

I honestly regret only getting into Zao recently. So good, and you can hear their influence on newer bands like Jesus Piece and Vein.

Oh man The Tide And Its Takers. "Absent Are The Saints" is the shit.

I wasn't huge on Collisions And Castaways at the time, but I love Time And Trauma and Lanterns. So many classic 36CF tracks on those two. And agreed on Brock's voice. His scream isn't as raw anymore, and he actually sings a lot more these days which suits him better.

Love Jesus Piece and Vein. My favourite metalcore band in years is seeyouspacecowboy though

Weird thing here, but I heard Old Wounds new song the other day and got big The Curse-era Atreyu vibes, and not in a bad way.

    Last Atreyu-related post, swearsies...

Did anyone make it the whole way through that new Atreyu album?

Both their debuts are in my top 10 of this year, next to Pig Destroyer and Deafheaven. Vein's especially. They're the best thing I've heard since Code Orange's Forever.

Seeyouspacecowboy are pretty baller. I like the combo of skramz and metalcore. On that, have you heard Wristmeetrazor?

Pretty cool but I got to see Old Wounds and Unearth open for Atreyu right before Long Live came out. Unearth have the best live show and just give it 110% every time.

I did. There were good moments splintered through it but 90% of it was utter trash and thus cannot be defended at all by me.
