My buddy got married in June and I was in the wedding party. Speeches took a while and then his wife’s sister’s made everyone sing a vaguely racists nursery rhyme they learned in camp or something as kids.

So my buddy’s sister (who was on his side of the wedding party) went up to the open bar and said “the bride would like two bottles of rose please,” (wedding was at a winery) and so we spent the whole night asking for full bottles of wine in the brides name and I got really fucking drunk

can't be made fun of Prestigious

two of my best friends are getting married in 2019. i’m a groomsmen in one and i’m nervous about that. the other guy has a ton of brothers so his whole groomsmen lineup is family so that takes pressure off the rest of the group lol.

my parents (mom and now-officially step dad) got married this summer and i gave the best speech ever:

"hello everyone and thanks for attending. if i could have your un-devoted attention, this shouldn't take long, only about 40-45 minutes. i kid, i kid. unlike most of you who are wondering "what took so long?" (they were together 18 years before randomly deciding to get married this summer) i wonder, "do they really know each other? i mean, they've only been together for 3 houses, five cats, 2 dogs, and about 15 vehicles. how well do you really know a person, eh?" as most of you know, this is the second marriage for each of them. so for those who attended the first - WELCOME BACK! and hopefully, i'm sure we can all agree, this one ends better than the last ones, but let's not get our hopes up too much. it took them 18 years to get here and this could still crash and burn, right? well, now that you're all teary-eyed and sappy, let's a raise a glass for a cliche toast!"

everyone loved it and the whole night was a lot of fun.

    beautiful speech

at my wedding, after my then father-in-law had done his speech and said all these lovely things about the day and my then wife, and I just stood up and said "ditto" and sat down.

my friends thought it was hilarious as they could get back to drinking, my mother thought it was typical me as she knows I hate public speaking. my then mother-in-law thought I was an absolute idiot and ruined the whole thing. set the tone really for our entire frosty relationship

Pro tip: never got close enough with anyone so you don't have to give a best man/maid of honor speech cause that would give me nightmares

This is where we’re currently at.

Also my friends did a Legend of Zelda (with a splash of Super Mario) themed celebration this year and it was super fun. One of my favorite weddings I’ve been in for sure.

haha they didn't, that would be cool though. let me try and remember:
    - they did a garden wedding
    - groom wore a green suit during the ceremony, but wore Link's Breath of the Wild tunic in the after-party
    - obviously bride did a Zelda gown (she's going to kill me because I forgot which one), I want to say Twilight Princess but it could be ALBW Zelda
    - they had photos where they were dressed as Ravi/Hilda from ALBW, it was hilarious
    - i was a groomsman and we wore LoZ pins, and afterwards I kept ribbing my friend that I was supposed to be the best man (the best man got the Triforce pin) and it seems like I made a compelling argument because whenever that conversation gets brought up he mentions that. i got the rupee pin
    - the cake was the master sword embedded in a rock
    - the log (get it, log book) book was a deku tree were you could write your greetings on a leaf-shaped paper and fill up the tree
    - i forgot which song they slow-danced to, but it was so good
    - there was a ? Block of different sizes, I even brought one home and use it as a display at the office

Lots more stuff happened, but the couple are just really great people, and I was genuinely just so happy for them. They work in Japan now, but we keep in touch (and play Splatoon 2 regularly).

EDIT: Oh yeah, one of my friends dressed up as a Persona protagonist to the wedding and it was awesome because he totally pulled it off. Those who knew had a laugh, and those who didn't thought it was just normal attending-a-wedding clothes.

Well for some reason this one is small enough

Anyway I’m deff not in any position to start something with someone, but reading this thread makes me feel like I’m just so different. the idea of meeting up for dates and spending repetitive shallow time with people you don’t know has zero appeal to me and I feel like I would never make a connection that way (she says even tho she met her most recent ex on okc and met him the same day they started messaging) but anyway I just have to have such a stable background to have any interest at all, so I don’t think dating apps are gonna be the move for me. I need to feel like friends first I guess

Anyway exhibit 1 of 3748 of why men are trash and I’m done with them.
I actually opened up my “who I’m looking for” to include gender nonconforming people and trans men bc honestly cis straight men just ain’t it. F99A70CA-7C99-4800-B4A0-A40E59BDC01F.png

At my wedding my groomsmen and I all threw in some money on a bunch of prop bets and that definitely helped with the boring ceremonial parts of the day.
