serious question, does anyone here have a family who's superstitious? i'm not entirely sure how to deal with this because it's just so absurd. last time I posted here was proposing to my SO. but now she's my fiancee (hurray!).

The problem is we want to get married next year, but my sister is also getting married next year. There's this belief in our culture that relatives who hold weddings in the same year will have bad luck. I don't believe in that (obviously). But my family does and they instantly got worried when I told them about my plans. My fiancee asked her extended family, and they believe in the same thing and I'm losing hope here.

I honestly don't want to hold my plans for something I don't even believe in, but all of this is just so absurd and I don't want to bum them out, and I definitely don't want to disrespect them, but I also want to be able to do what I want. Sorry thread, I can't even believe this is a thing I'm talking it's just so insane about but if anyone has the slightest of advice I'm all for it.

She doesn't sound great... I don't think I'd be especially accommodating if someone I'd just met started telling me how I feel.

Well, I drafted an email to send to my lawyer to file for divorce. I've explained my situation here previously, so I think most people will say I'm doing the right thing. But man, it's hard to hit send.

you’re still young and have a lot of time to find happiness and build a life with someone. or to not do that at all if that’s what you want. no matter what, you don’t owe those years to someone who doesn’t take it seriously. good luck with everything and cheers to 2019 being a better year.

It's YOUR wedding. Do what YOU want. No one should tell you any differently, regardless of ridiculous superstitions or the wishes of either of your family members.

It’s not disrespectful to get married on the day that you and your fiancée choose.

There’s no real solid answer to this one cause it kind of varies on the situation. If you’re vibing really well I would do it sooner rather than later and strike while the iron is hot. In my personal experience I think I asked my wife on a date within like 3 days of talking

That is definitely what we’re doing, but I guess what got to me was how much big of a deal it was than I was expecting. Thanks a lot. I feel a lot better about our decision.

I know it can be hard to put family’s feelings aside, but it’s your wedding and it’s one of the few times in life that you should be selfish and do everything exactly how you want it

Yeah, I’ve been trying the whole “ striking while iron is hot thing” but seems it’s not working well? but maybe they aren’t vibing as well as I am? I usually wait a week or 2 of talking because usually I feel it gets better conversation in person when you know more about a person then having those awkward first dates. I stopped that though because it’s like me or the other person gets bored once we get each other’s numbers or new fangled Snapchat people use.

This is a bizarre situation for sure, I think if you do continue to plan the wedding, your families (who obviously love you), will forget about the superstition and it will be a beautiful day regardless of what they felt beforehand. Do you boo boo.

Some people believe in things that (to me) are weird. But, if you have a good relationship with your family they’ll be willing to put a superstition aside to have the chance to show their support, love, pride and respect for you and your significant other.
I much prefer getting to know someone in person, so if the early message trading on the apps went well I offered to move the conversation to a text (or another form of messaging if they preferred) and 9 out of 10 times if they were willing to move the conversation off the app, we made plans to meet up very soon. But, that doesn’t work for everyone; I just happen to really enjoy getting to know people in person because I’m better in person than in text due to my rambling nature when I text. Much like this.

The only part of this that gives me any pause is what your sister & her fiance think about it. If it's just parents making a fuss, then I wouldn't be bothered, but if your sister & future BIL are gonna think you're cursing their marriage or something... I dunno

I’m a big proponent of doing whatever the fuck you want despite what your parents desire for your life. The only shitty thing is that when something bad happens in the future, and it will cause life, they might pin it on you bringing bad luck to the family or whatever. But we all know that’s a bunch of mumbo jumbo so who cares tbh

So I've been texting alot with my ex from over a year ago. She usually initiates it, there's also this weird thing we do where she doesnt have a car but she uses uber alot and I uber so she will usually ask me for a ride and throw me a few dollars if i'm around. I prob do it for her at least 3 times a week at least. She has a boyfriend right now, but the amount she texts me and jokes around with me confuses me. I don't think i'd even want to rekindle a relationship right now but I absolutely miss having *** with her. The other night we randomly went to publix together to buy fruit for ourselves because she lives around the corner.

    yeah good okay Prestigious

    ok so

    1. I went way overboard in terms of scheduling. Seven girls in eight days was not ideal. Even with one of them cancelling and me rescheduling another one, it was a bit absurd. I admit it was kind of fun in a masochistic sort of way. I really feel like I got it out of my system haha. One thing I definitely noticed was that I struggled to remember who I had told what. Like, I would tell a story and be like "wait did I already tell her this or was it Julie I told yesterday" sort of thing haha.

    2. In terms of $$, I bought dinner/drinks on Tuesday, drinks Friday night, nothing Saturday bc I forgot my wallet (lol), brunch Sunday morning, a single drink Sunday afternoon, and Wednesday was just a walk. So not as much as I thought I'd spend, but obviously that rate would bankrupt me in weeks.

    3. There are at least two of them that I am attracted to/like and would want to see them again. We're already making plans to do so. There are a few I'm ok with not seeing again and there's at least one who is super chill and I'd like to be friends with. 3/7 ain't bad, especially since none of them were horror stories.

    4. I kinda want to delete all the apps again, just because I really feel like I got it out of my system. Not to say that I feel like I've found my soul mate(s) already, because I ain't looking for that. It's just an exhausting process having to schedule a meetup time and tell the same stories/background about myself over and over. Really is a first world problem and I sound like an asshole for putting it that way (because I am).

    5. No furry dreams yet, but it's only been a week.
