ok so I went on my final date in that stretch of poor decisions this morning. I planned on meeting this girl today like weeks ago. Just looking at her Instagram is intimidating, she's beautiful and has done some cool traveling and whatnot, while I sit on me arse and work from home in my PJs.

We met at a park and it was immediately apparent how much better behaved her dog was than mine. My good boye is fine, but he's so full of energy so I didn't let him off the leash while her dog ran free. My dog is kind of a runner, so I didn't want to chance it.

This girl is from San Diego (so am I). She went to school in Missouri for finance & economics then took a sales job in Manhattan for a few years while long-distance dating this guy from South Carolina. She then up and left her job to travel, with the possibility of coming back left open by her employers. Her and her boyfriend bought a camper, did a bunch of work on it, and traveled all the way from NY to Seattle for like 2 months, which was all recorded and photographed on her website. Her bf ended up taking a job elsewhere so they agreed to split and she kept the dog. She went back to her sales job here and has been doing that since July or so. She basically hates it and is already looking for other jobs, while purposefully not doing a great job because she's unmotivated and doesn't care for the job itself, despite her company allowing her to return to it after traipsing across the country for months. She kinda admitted to trying to get fired and is looking at other places to move/work like Oakland and Denver. I got the impression that she is in her own little world and doesn't know what she's doing with her life.

Conversational highlights. We got to talking about previous relationships and I mentioned that before my divorce I was married for 3.5 years, starting at age 26. She said that was wayyy too young and that she wouldn't get married a day before turning 30. I scratched my head at that one.

She also asked how I was doing with the divorce, which sort of went like this:

Her: So how long ago did you guys split?

Me: About six months ago.

Her. Oh, so you're not over it.

Me: I mean, I've made a lot of progress. The choice was kinda taken from me so I had no choice but to move on quickly.

Her: Yeah, but you're not over it. They say that it takes half as long as you were with someone to get over them.

Me: Who says that?

Her: (some vague response that I don't remember because I was kinda miffed, but amounted to something like "they do")

Me: I wonder if they've ever been divorced.

Her: I think that's factored in.

She then asked me jokingly if I believed in "The Almighty" when I mentioned I was a Christian. She seemed pretty ready to look down on me for that one, but that topic wasn't pursued, thankfully.

Anyways, after an hour or so of walking the dogs and talking, we said goodbye. She is only looking for friends, which is good because I am too. At the same time, I'm relieved. She came across as stuck-up and overly opinionated, especially for someone who doesn't seem to know what she's doing with her life. And the whole being berated for how I was handling my divorce was a major turn-off as well. I don't think I could be around her for extended periods of time tbh. Maybe to go on a hike every so often but that's it.

I love my SO but she is absolutely terrible at keeping secrets, she spilled the beans about buying tickets to Portland and seeing the 1975 there in April for my/our Christmas gift.

now I’m just haggling with her about staying four nights instead of three, haha.

 

How long do people on here usually ask/talk about going on dates after starting to talk to someone?

I feel like I ask too early or way too late and they aren’t interested anymore haha

 

my gf is of the opinion if you've not met up within a few days of matching/started conversation then it aint happening.

I think when I met her we matched in the morning and where at a bar 7 hours later

 

This is the hardest thing for me haha. Either it’s too soon or not soon enough and then one or both loses interest.

 

Yeah, modern dating I feel like there’s a week or so window to figure out a plan. Otherwise they could find someone who can meet sooner/catches attention or vice versa if you are utilizing dating apps.
